FUNNY, HE DOESN'T LOOK MUSLIM

A suspect was arrested after a Utah elementary school was evacuated when a man allegedly said that there were explosives in his car, which was parked near the building.

About 250 students along with faculty were evacuated from Eagle Valley Elementary Monday afternoon, according to the Deseret News.

The paper reported that a bomb squad did not find any explosives. No injuries were reported.

Christopher Dewitt Craig, 35, of Eagle Mountain was arrested after three hours of negotiations, officials said. He was described as a former college basketball coach and a college player before that.

Utah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Cannon said Craig complained about “social injustices, that kind of thing.” But he said that a precise motive was still being investigated and may be related to mental health issues.

The incident began when a man entered the school about 2:15 p.m., allegedly claiming he had a bomb and telling school administrators to get everyone out, school officials said. Some reports said he was wearing mask.

Cannon said the suspect parked his car next to the school entrance, went inside and told the school’s front office secretary that he had a “large amount of explosives” in the trunk of his car.

As the evacuation was carried out, about 85 to 100 officers surrounded the school, located about 30 miles south of Salt Lake City. The paper reported that Craig surrendered to police and was arrested by early evening.

Craig was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of making a threat of terrorism, interfering with an arresting officer, failure to disclose identity, disrupting operations of a school and disorderly conduct.
