Another liberal business (DirecTV) refuses service to conservatives (OAN)

Liberal businesses are allowed to refuse service to anyone they dislike for any reason. Twitter and facebook even did it to president trump!! But if a conservative business refused service to blacks or perverts the press would explode.

april 4 2022 DirecTV will drop far-right cable news outlet One America News Network on Tuesday, April 4, according to Bloomberg’s Gerry Smith.

The satellite TV cable behemoth said earlier this year that it planned to no longer carry OAN, which was criticized for spreading false information about the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 presidential election, and its general spread of conspiracy theories, once its contract expires. OAN began airing on DirecTV in April 2017.

DirecTV is going through with the move despite Herring Networks Inc., which owns and operates OANN, having sued parent company AT&T on March 7, seeking $1 billion in damages, alleging that the removal of the network from the satellite service was politically inspired and “could be devastating” financially. Court records have shown that about 90% of OAN’s revenue is generated from its AT&T/DirecTV deals.

OAN is free to pay for DirectTV just like every other customer which would mean that DirectTV is not denying them the same service as others.

I support Freedom of Association and think a business should be allowed to refuse service to anyone for any reason. But all businesses should have that right, not just liberal ones.

You got it reversed. DirecTV is refusing to buy from OAN. DirecTV is not the provider, it is the customer.

Younger, more urban or suburban customers are leaving DirecTV and replacing it with just internet service. They watch their TV on demand. That left more older, more rural customers as DirecTV's main customer base. These are terrible customers, because they are not worth much to advertisers. They are not making new purchasing decisions. They are poor and set in their ways. But they still pay for service, and get mad if they lose their extreme right wing "news". So OAN demanded more and more money.

But OAN also turns off customers. DirecTV customers who do not support their Neo-Nazism do not like having their fees go to support OAN. You may argue they are not Neo-Nazis, but a large number of DirecTV customers disagree with you... In other words, it really does not matter what you argue.

So DirecTV did a cost benefit, and decided not to buy from OAN.

The vast majority of Democrats do not consider a civil war even likely, much less happening. There is a special place in hell for those who have convinced you that committing terrorism against your fellow Americans is acceptable.

I lose customers and clients all the time. I always wish them the best of luck, and tell them they will be welcome back with open arms. Leaving is fine, but not paying is a very different issue. A customer who did not pay is not as welcome.

When right wingnuts attack businesses that pull their advertisements, or stop buying their product, they show all businesses it is best never to start buying from them. When Glenn Beck called for boycotts of businesses that stopped advertising with him, other businesses learned that it was important never to start advertising with him, so they would not have to be attacked for stopping.

An adult realizes this.
