Since its inception in 1953, every new president has attended The Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball – until now.

The ball was created for President Dwight Eisenhower's inauguration to honor recipients of the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military award. The event is sponsored by the American Legion and co-sponsored by 13 other veteran's service organizations, including the Paralyzed Veterans of America and the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

And while 48 of the nation's 99 living recipients of the Medal of Honor attended the event, newly sworn-in President Barack Obama became the first president in 56 years to skip out on the ceremony.

A new breed of President..another first?....makes ya proud, huh?
 
I wonder if his secretary will be the first head to roll in this administration for not getting the date and time to him so that he could attend? After all, surely, he would have attended if he had known about it. :p

He sent Biden in his stead, he knew about it. American Legion said they weren't offended. Still it would have helped him with the military, I'd think.

That wasn't how I read it. It read that VP Biden showed up, not that President Obama sent him in his place. It seems to me that it would have been a good move that have at least made an appearance, although, I am sure that there were many other places that would have appreciated a visit.

Heck, he would have been welcomed at my home.

I would have been glad to offer him a beer... um, well, my wife would have had to have run to the store, but I would gladly have provided dinner for him. I wonder... does he like Taco Bell? :D

Why would you care if the president goes to some silly ball that you were not even invited to.

I dont care if he goes to a ball or not, all I care about is if he is working to make the nation a better place.
