The protests are against ICE, not the governor, specifically in support of his effort to reduce ICE's presence in the city.
For the sake of America's survival, ICE has to continue, or the cost of feeding, housing, and medicine for the illegals will bankrupt the nation.

So, 14Million Bidden Illegals = $65K X 14M = $9.1×10¹¹ per year.
To convert that to understandable numbers, $1M = 1×10⁶, $1B = 1×10⁹,
So, that's $910B per year.
That's almost as much as the Interest on the $40T of national debt.
