It's part of our over-reaction status in this country......if you let one doctor get away with over-prescription for whatever reason, it opens the door for others to abuse the system. In their mindset, better to inconvenience a few than risk larger abuses down the line.

Not quite, as the record of death due to prescription drugs in the country match or exceeds deaths due to illegal drug abuse. We're not talking fake prescriptions here...we're talking legit, physician approved dosages that have led to death by too many drugs, too high a dosage, or nasty little side effects the pharmaceutical companies forget to mention.
No one is saying the system is perfect, but the alternative...letting the collusion of the FDA and the pharma companies have their way, and doctors just throwing procedure and protocal out the window whenever they please....is not the answer.
