We invaded their country. Is that a good think, for you?

America’s 20 years of self-delusion about Afghanistan

The structure of the Kabul government has been rotting from within for all 20 years of the United States’ war. And every U.S. commander knew its weakness. They worried about the corruption and incompetence of the government, devised elaborate strategies to fix it, kept convincing themselves they were making progress. Hope is not a strategy, as every commander knows. In this case, it was.

A primer on false narratives about Afghanistan

We abandoned the Afghans.
We failed to get people out. False. The airport in Kabul is up and running flights to evacuate U.S. citizens, third-party nationals, interpreters and other Afghan partners. The military predicted that within 24 hours, we would be flying out 5,000 to 9,000 people per day. The administration has been in “communication” with Taliban commanders to allow people safe passage to the airport. The administration will be judged on whether it completes its mission.

Their best shot is to cross into Mexico and come across our Southern border illegally. That way they get a free bus or airplane ticket to the city of their choice...
