A sad day for the US if the Espionage Act is used against WikiLeaks???

Is it really the point that security has to be compromised ?

Stealing Secret/Confidential intelligence from any Government is unlawful....and receiving that stolen intelligence is illegal.....and in turn, making government secrets public should be illegal....no matter who that government is....
At least within reason and on a case by case basis as decided by said government.
?????????????????....Yes...No..?

Did Mr. Assange steal any secrets?

No.

Is he an American citizen?

No.

Is the US government persecuting him in violation of our cherished principles of freedom?

Looks like it to me.

even IF security is compromised, we the people deserve to know everything our government is doing.

No you don't.....not by any stretch....
Even a citizen can be an enemy of the country, MY country....and I deserve the right to be protected and enjoy security from said 'enemy citizen'....NO RIGHTS are without some bounds.....freedom of speech, the right to bear arms, freedom of religion, etc.
All have limitations....

"...pay excruciatingly close attention to what the US government is doing to Bradley Manning, the 22-year-old army private accused of leaking hundreds of thousands of cables to WikiLeaks. Manning has been held in solitary confinement at the US Marine Corps brig in Quantico, Virginia, for five months now. He has not been convicted of any crime. In a devastating Salon article, Glenn Greenwald has stressed that Manning is "under conditions that constitute cruel and inhumane treatment and, by the standards of many nations, even torture".

So that was Assange's terse way of saying to the world: Big Brother is watching you. And what they're doing to Manning they want to do to me, to you, and metaphorically to anyone who believes in freedom of information."

If you don't know, is it possible that the government doesn't want you to?

That's acceptable to you, if I understand your position.

Are you contending that Mr. Assange's arrest and detention and the sudden cutoff of all avenues of Wikileaks funding are the result of unproven allegations by two Swedish women?

"The Guardian has published detailed statements by prosecutors, who are trying to extradite Assange to Sweden for questioning, and accounts by some of the main players involved in the unfolding saga.

According to the police reports viewed by the Guardian, Assange's accusers allege the following:

That Assange "unlawfully coerced" Miss A by using his body weight to hold her down in a sexual manner.

That he "sexually molested" Miss A by having sex with her without a condom when it was her "express wish" one should be used.

That he "deliberately molested" Miss A "in a way designed to violate her sexual integrity."

That he had sex with a second woman, Miss W, without a condom while she was asleep."

This really looks like persecution.

Now Bank of America has refused to process payments to Wikileaks.

The report said she was awakened by him having sex with her and that she was 'half asleep' or to put it another way, 'half awake'!
One said his body weight had impeded her 'reaching over' to get a ('a' not 'the') condom. Reaching over? Like this 'rape victim' happened to have a supply of condoms close by.
Neither woman made any complaints until they discovered the 'presence' of the other. One was advised that if she went to the police she might be able to make some money.

Nothing would have been done were it not for the US authorities who had been tracking him with the intent of preventing Wikileaks from operating since 2008!!!!
Tell you what, my fellow travellers, the US authorities are going to come out of this with a lot more than just egg on their faces. They are going to have a whole chicken farm to clear up! They know they are getting bad press. How stupid do they have to be to continue?

anything is possible....I thought I didn't know because I really don't give a rats ass about what is done to Mr. Assange....and haven't made an effort to learn any details of his legal problems in the UK.....

You have accused the US government of persecuting Assange
I asked you how ....So I'm waiting.

As far as I know, the allegations of those women is the reason he was arrested and I don't know what was cutoff or by whom........

enlighten us...

Nah...not interested....all I know is,

The Russian President, Medvedev, is talking of supporting Assange....
Brazilian President, da Silva, expressed his support....
Ecuador appeared to be offering Assange residency , this is, asylum...
Michael Moore sent him "bail money" I believe....
A Kermlin source wants to give him a Nobel Prize....
Most lefties on the web seem to support him....
And of course, you.

I thought I'd give you an opportunity to come to his aid in a meaningful way.

So I take it, your accusation that the US government is persecuting Assange is just your way of passing a little hot air.....you don't seem to be able to provide a real answer....
