A few of my lefty facebook friends want to 'make nice!'

I have always had an abundance of liberal friends, I don't know why, I guess they just tend to gravitate toward my brilliance... not sure... but my facebook page is being bombarded with these "causes" from them lately, an appeal to "show respect" or "don't be disrespectful" of the president.

I find it mildly amusing that liberal pinheads seem to think they can make everything right again by calling for 'civility' and asking us to 'be nice' to Obama! After all the bitter and hateful rhetoric from the left, directed at anything from the right, for nearly the past decade, they seem to suddenly think they can forget about all that and be civil once again? We're just supposed to forget about all the nasty things they've had to say about Conservatives, Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld, Palin, Newt, McCain, the TEA Party, and anyone right of Karl Marx. The deplorable and disgusting label of "teabaggers" (a degrading and humiliating reference to a perverted sexual act), being called "racist" and "homophobes" and "intolerant bigots" on a daily basis, and insidiously through their "news" stories. This shit has gone on since the 2000 elections, but now it's supposed to all be forgotten because liberals want us to 'come together' and support our president?

Sorry, but I don't think so!

Ah, yes - the rancor only started with the 2000 election. Good call, Dix.

I think, as we both remember, the Clinton years were really a model of respectful treatment of the President; all I remember is kind words & best wishes from the right-wing when he was in office...

Clinton had a weekly sex scandal, culminating in a sexual harassment lawsuit where he felt compelled to lie under oath in, which got him impeached. The right didn't control the man's zipper, that was all his own doings. Still, there was not the level of vitriol and hate toward the left or Clinton, compared to some of the stuff spewed about the right in recent years... I mean come on dude... Racists? That's a pretty strong insult compared to what was said about Clinton and the left, in my opinion.... and let's not get started on what all you put Bush through for 8 years.

I wouldn't be asking for civility. I'd tell you to go fuck yourself. The right can't be reasoned with.

I guess that's how I'm different than most of the left, though. And I guess that's why the left will always be weak - they refuse to accept that maybe, there isn't an absolute balance in the world, and they aren't every little bit as bad as conservatives.

Bush started his term by throwing the country into two wars and ended it with a near financial collapse. Are people supposed to say, "Good job, George?" Or, "What the hell were you thinking?" Assuming he was thinking, that is.

Well, he didn't "throw us" anywhere... We had war declared on us by radical jihadists back when Clinton was president, and we largely ignored it until 9/11/01... a date that somehow doesn't mean a goddamn thing to any liberal in America, for some reason. And the "financial collapse" was largely due to Barney Frank and Christopher Dodd, implementing a plan for Freddy and Fannie to make low interest loans to people who absolutely couldn't afford them... (I also fault Bush for going along with this shit).

NONE of this warrants the kind of sleazy and disgusting shit that has been hurled at the right from the left. You've allowed envy, hate, and bitterness, to starkly divide us as a nation, and now you think that can all be 'made right' with a plea for civility... well guess fucking what? It doesn't work that way!

In the end it really doesn't matter because it will all work out. Any rational thinking person will look at wars and financial upheaval on one side and health care on the other. Spending money on wars and taking lives or spending money on health and saving lives. On one side a war monger shooting off his mouth with "Bring it on" and on the other a man trying his best to reach some kind of understanding even if it doesn't produce the expected results.

Wars and financial disaster, the two most serious things to happen to a country, happened on Bush's watch. Excuses, explanations, mitigating circumstances notwithstanding, it happened during his Presidency. Can you honestly blame people for not thinking kindly of him?

And now people jump on Obama because he hasn't fixed the mess he inherited. Now they jump on a President who is trying to bring medical care to the citizens and trying to end the wars and trying to bring financial stability. Strange, indeed.

Well, there was "murderer." You know...the Vince Foster thing? And a whole group was going to fund a "counter-Clinton" library in AK, which was going to have a "death wing," detailing the over 50 people who Clinton had "offed."

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. You're insane if you think the only rancor directed against Clinton was the sex scandals. You guys were absolutely out of control.

The right has hardly sunk to the level of disprespect that the left reveled in towards Bush. The use of the term "teabagger" is merely further evidence of their hypocrisy.

I have 7 Obama supporters in my Facebook friends, most of them are under 25. I would say only 1 of them is really pushing the "let's be nice to Obama" message. The rest pretty much leave politics out of the forum...thankfully :)

The right cant be reasoned with? That all depends, if you are asking me to compromise on principles.. its not going to happen... thats the big difference when comparing a person of character to a little fucking weazel who's main goal is to gather together and acquire power.

Strange things do happen on facebook. I ran into a friend from about 30 somethin years ago.. we got into some heavy political banter that evolved into nasty name calling. It got to the point where I had to defriend the guy. No matter the topic...he would call me a hater and racist. I ripped apart the Health Care Mandate, I was a hater and racist. Its consistent with the campaigns .... they got nothing ... so they use the card.

Here we go again, it's amazing how Lehmann Brothers, Goldman Sachs, AIG et al have all been written out of history by the eponymous hero aka good ol' boy from Dixie. Oh and don't forget the Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:GrammLeachBliley.jpg" class="image"><img alt="" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/49/GrammLeachBliley.jpg/350px-GrammLeachBliley.jpg"@@AMEPARAM@@commons/thumb/4/49/GrammLeachBliley.jpg/350px-GrammLeachBliley.jpg signed into law in 1999 repealing Glass-Steagall.

Here is a hint for everyone. Facebook does not matter. Nothing has ever been important on facebook. In fact, to show that, you all should join my group, the only one that will actually accomplish what it sets out to do .
