Anyone on the East Coast watch it yet? Read there was a segment claiming all babies are born racist. What did you think if you saw it?

what? how can they possibly verify that?

for example, when i was in first grade, my new desk mate was a black girl. i didn't even realize her skin color meant anything until my parents mentioned it and that i would be the only first grader to share a desk with a black girl. i remember this distinctly because i didn't even know her skin color was black. i thought she was cute. but i was warned about her skin color and what others might think.

we became good friends. well, as good as first graders can become friends.

I just watched that. Interesting but we have to consider the baby's ability to understand. By that I mean it can only relate to it's small world. For example, a baby will almost always prefer it's mother even if anther woman may look after it much better. It prefers what it knows or understands. I wouldn't say it shows racism. It simply favors what it knows. A matter of survival as it depends on what's familiar.

I was actually on a football board when I saw the thread started on this topic and a couple of the comments (I posted below) seemed to echo what you were saying. Out here on the left coast we have another 45 minutes until it comes on. The Misses is a director at a preschool so she studies child development so I'm interested in hearing her comments as well.

"Wife and I were watching as well.

Love how they automatically insert "Hate" when the babies are just picking something similar to them.

Calling them "Little Bigots" is a fvcking joke and reckless."

and then

"Yeah, thought that was kind of a duh thing. Do they really need to do studies on babies to realize that it's human nature to be biased when it comes to things that are similar to ourselves and those that are different? And calling it hate and bigotry, come on, people. It's human nature."

Haven't seen it (no cable), but I'd hazard a guess that its a biological hold over from our tribal days. Those who don't look like your own tribe are, biologically speaking, to be viewed as potential enemies.
