We are bombing both sides in a foreign civil war ...
Is that "necessary?
Does that make any fucking sense at all?
actually no it does not, in a perfect world.
My take is that of course we need to fight ISIS, wherever they are, and no we should not take part in ousting Assad.
And I think Trump agrees.
So then you must ask yourself why the air strikes. purely humanitarian? I think not.
Purely a show of force? I think not.
I think there is a strategy going on behind the curtain, and would find it hard to believe if Russia is not on board.
an educated guess.
too risky to just send in 59 Thomahawks hoping no
Russian planes get hit in the cross fire.
So that would mean Russia was told to beware and take flight. Russia tells Assad he okayed it. Assad is on board with taking his medicine to make Trump look good both home and abroad so they can open up talks without Trump looking like he is dealing with the devil(s).
Russia can step in and make a three way Peace deal saying Assad has realized the error of his ways and is now ok with Trump landing planes in Syria to join the fight.
Assad has been assured he will stay in power, Russia looks in charge, Trump looks like the strong man, and all three can now be a team and defeat not only ISIS but Assads opposition.
WIn WIn Win.
