A man accused of opening fire in a Manassas neighborhood, triggering an eight-hour lockdown is now in police custody, facing multiple gun charges.

Gunfire began around 1:30 p.m., in the Georgetown South Neighborhood.

Witnesses told police bullets were flying everywhere, with several rounds smashing windows of cars parked on the street.

Police said the two men fled into a townhouse at the end of the street, surrounded by police and heavily armed ATF agents.

Police ordered the block evacuated, while they considered strategies on how to approach the house.

"We had an anonymous tip that there were some military grade and assault style weapons in the house," Police Chief Doug Keen said.

Officers, armed with a search warrant, entered the home.

Michael Boxler, the ATF Washington Field Division Agent in Charge noted there were "a tremendous amount of specialized resources, including tactical operators, K9, and technical experts specially trained to resolve situations like this."

No one was inside, but law enforcement sources say weapons were discovered in the house.

Police have not discussed a motive for the shooting, or who the intended target was. Authorities are continuing to search for the second suspect.
