The Democrats were handed an ultimatum that they did not ask for. They can do nothing and allow this abomination of a president to continue to violate his oath of office, obstruct justice, and illegally seek the help of foreign entities to help him win elections, violate the emolument clause, violate the Constitution, corrupt the Justice and State departments, or they can carry out their Article 1 obligations of investigating and impeachment as they took an oath of office to do so.

Perhaps the oath of office means nothing to Republicans - but Democrats are sincere about their oath of office commitments!

No such requirement exists. The entire House could vote tomorrow to impeach without any previous vote.

** What oath of office violation?
    ** What justice obstruction?
    ** What foreign entity "collusion"?
** What violation of the emolument clause?
    ** What Constitutional violation(s)?
** What corruption of Justice/State Departments?
** Stop taking one bit of Article 1 out of context from the rest of the Constitution...

Republicans violate the US Constitution too, but it is much more often so the Democrats who are violating the US Constitution.

Republicans will have a choice to either prove they are still Americans by impeaching Trump in the Senate, or being branded traitors
for standing by a self confessed criminal as potus for the sole reason he is in their party.

There is no defense. It's indefensible. Note bald gainsaying in the face of a confession is not a defense.

All they can do is choose to affirm they are Americans and remove him from office or stick with Trump.

The obvious additional downside of sticking with Trump is setting the precedent that using the white house power and purse to destroy political enemies
    is AOK in this democracy.

    False Dichotomy Fallacy.

    ** Republicans have no ultimatum.
    ** They are Americans regardless.
** Traitors to what? How so?
** Trump has not confessed to being a criminal.
** What crime(s) has Trump committed?

No defense needed. He committed no crime.

John Adams doesn’t agree with you, he referred to the USA as a representative democracy. Other s have called it a constitutional democracy.
