If it was just verbal without a physical component I still don’t see a need for a choke hold.

Yeah I had a similar experience in my office. I always kept a gun in my desk I didn't pull it but I sure thought about doing it.

I always take a pistol to the apartment complex I call "The Prison" (43rd Ave and Thomas just SW of the intersection behind the pre-school in Phoenix if you want to look it up). That one is always hopping off. The FBI's there, the Marshall's service is there, ambulances, firetrucks, the police, the sheriff's department, you-name-it. Last time I was there, they were taking 3 dead bodies out of one unit where they'd OD'd. I cursed the bad luck it wasn't the one I had to install a new doorbell on...

Something similar happened to me one time also, but when I asked the guy what he wanted, he just wanted to use the phone, when I let him use the phone, he left quietly. I know of two local cases where attorneys were killed by their clients. Both divorce situations, and wealthy murderers.

You can subdue him without killing him.

There is nothing to cheer here, nor is there evidence of deliberate murder. Jordan threatened the lives of those in the rail car, and also expressed a disregard for his own. Being a danger to himself and others someone decided to take some action to protect the people around him, and to try to stop the man from hurting others or himself.

While the action did result in the death of Jordan Neely, there are many who might take that same action if they felt threatened by someone threatening them or others around them and acting erratically.

What we will learn at his manslaughter trial was whether a reasonable person might take that action. Whether a reasonable person might feel threatened by Jordan at that time. Even the prosecutor doesn't believe he was trying to kill Jordan, the charges made that clear.
Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but rather we have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.

Believe nothing on the faith of traditions, even though they have been held in honor for many generations and in diverse places. Do not believe a thing because many people speak of it. Do not believe on the faith of the sages of the past. Do not believe what you yourself have imagined, persuading yourself that a God inspires you. Believe nothing on the sole authority of your masters and priests. After examination, believe what you yourself have tested and found to be reasonable, and conform your conduct thereto.

Anyone who has spent much time in a D run big city over these last years thus knows exactly what happened here.

That isn't a random tweet. You can follow the link in the tweet and read the article. Folks nowadays love to pretend they don't know how the internets work, but we know better... You do... You just chose to be ignorant here.

The stories of people being assaulted now in mass transit with lots of people around and nobody does anything but maybe recording on their phones are heart breaking.

    This shit is societal cancer.
