How aiding the Ukrainian military could push Putin into a regional war

Fiona Hill is the director of the Center on the United States and Europe at the Brookings Institution. Clifford Gaddy is a senior fellow in the center. They are co-authors of the book “Mr. Putin: Operative in the Kremlin.”

The United States is on a dangerous trajectory in its relations with Russia, a nuclear superpower that believes itself to be under direct threat. Several former U.S. officials and top think-tank experts released a report calling on the West to provide military support to Ukraine. (Two of them, our colleagues at the Brookings Institution, expanded on the report a week ago on this page [“Ukraine needs the West’s help now”].) The logic of sending weapons to Ukraine seems straightforward and is the same as the logic for economic sanctions: to change Vladi*mir Putin’s “calculus.” Increasing the Ukrainian army’s fighting capacity, the thinking goes, would allow it to kill more rebels and Russian soldiers, generating a backlash in Russia and ultimately forcing the Russian president to the negotiating table.

We strongly disagree. The evidence points in a different direction. If we follow the recommendations of this report, the Ukrainians won’t be the only ones caught in an escalating military conflict with Russia.

Wait, Democrats keep telling us that this woman saying something must mean it's true, even if we have Buzzfeed, CBS News, Politico, and every other source proving that she lied. By their logic, it must now be infallible truth that Russians tried to hurt both sides (which everyone but factually-challenged Democrats already knew)...and it was DEMOCRATS doing their bidding this entire time.

And why wasn’t she interviewed by Mullet? Why wasn’t Fiona Hill’s name to be found anywhere in Mullet’s report?

Lying is what he does. He's got this whole kind of spin routine going like he's practicing to attempt a job at political talk show punditry. The first key to him is he always has to hide his links.

Hence the Buzzfeed, CBS News, Politico, and every other article I've posted PROVING that this DEMOCRAT ACTIVIST lied through her teeth under oath. But go ahead, by all means, keep closing your eyes, covering your ears, and shouting, "Lies! Lies I tell you! All lies!" over the proof. I'm sure that, among Democrats, that will pass for a serious counterpoint.

Maybe Obama took Hill’s advice so that’s why he sent blankets instead of arms to Ukraine lol.

The other thing we learned from Hill’s testimony is that [she thinks, at least] the Russians were out to hobble either a Hillary or Trump presidency—no matter who won and their means to hobble Trump was with the Steele Dossier!

Instead of just increasing cyber security and the like—how about we be a nation of less-gullible fools so we don’t get played by the Russians?

How do you know that every repub believed the Russians meddled, just because that was the official position of the govt.? It's not cut and dried.

An example of false belief: the official position of the govt. is that 9/11 was an al-Qaeda operation yet some U.S. pols still thought it was an inside job.

Lost in all of this impeachment talk is the fact that every trump move seems to benefit Putin. Why is nobody asking about that?

The *mainstream* republican position is that Russia meddled but the ‘Russian effect’ was either insignificant or unquantifiable.

You may note that’s consistent with Mullet’s conclusion.

And there’s more than ample evidence that the Ukrainians meddled FOR Hillary and AGAINST Trump that’s hardly a ‘conspiracy theory’. Maybe not to the same extent as the Russians [whatever the hell that ‘extent’ was] but foreign meddling is foreign meddling.

I'll take the word of Fiona Hill and others who've actually been to Ukraine, and who stated unequivocally that trump's Ukraine narrative is fictional.

trump's Ukraine narrative, was that Putin was within his rights to annex Crimea. (hmmm...why would Ukraine support Hillary?) It was also that NATO should be disbanded.

My question is HOW long are they going to let this sh*t show go on? The Dim Dems obviously have NOTHING impeachable to charge our president with. It's a total waste of everyone and everything involved in this charade. The Dems should be concentrating on coming up with solid issues and policies that would actually challenge conservative ideas and President Trump. But NO, the ONLY platform the Dim Dems seem to be riding on is, "We HATE Trump, orange man BAD."

This has nothing to do with getting rid of trump. We NEED him in office next year if we want to finally get rid of his criminal enterprise.

This is about using the power of Congress to uncover evidence of his crimes.
