Default A boot is crushing the neck of American democracy

Philosopher and civil rights activist Cornel West writes for the Guardian:

The fundamental question at this moment is: can this failed social experiment be reformed? The political duopoly of an escalating neofascist Donald Trump-led Republican party and a fatigued Joe Biden-led neoliberal Democratic party – in no way equivalent, yet both beholden to Wall Street and the Pentagon – are symptoms of a decadent leadership class.

If he cared about Democracy, he'd stop saying anything bad about Biden real fast.

West's point is that both parties lost interest in representing the interests of most Americans. I don't think West believes Biden is the same as Trump.

From the comment section...George Floyd’s death is not only heinous, it’s a metaphor for a larger problem.

    Dear Red-State Trump Voter,
Let’s face it, guys: We’re done.

It is a tragedy that so much of the work that so many men and women toiled at for so long to make this a better country, and a better world, has been thrown away, leaving us all in such needless peril.

This is why our separation in all but name is necessary.

I agree. But the average person is going to hear this and walk away thinking "both sidez iz dum." He doesn't have to be nuanced all the time.

Which is why Trump supporters rejected both the repub and dem estab and elected a Washington outsider, ... a citizen candidate that can't be bought, and works for free.

Biden is not the same as Trump...but his long history and voting record reveals him to be a horrible candidate in his own right. In fact the only thing he has going for him as that he is not Trump.

You'll vote for the 40 year career politician and then whine about the establishment.

Both parties are stuck in the past. You can see that with the next generation of leaders from governors to mayors.
