Maybe. I'm more interested in what the Right has to say. They are the ones that scream 'Communism' at any mention of 'Government support' for any Industry. (Like support for transforming the auto fleet to electric)

There is no industry of rare earth mining in the United States. If the military wants to mine their own rare earths, let them. As far as private mining of rare earths in the States, fascism killed that.

Of course they are defence and strategic issues. issues. However never mind two UK companies I have shares in are about to become massive. Only a crazy country like the US would have allowed Mountain Pass in California to go bankrupt and then be bought up by the Chicoms. Actually the Chinese killed off Molycorp by raising prices after they'd gone to a low and Molycorp went bankrupt. It now exists and is listed on the NYSE as MP Materials Corp. All the ores extracted are processed in China, says it all.

Electric car batteries comes primarily from Japan and South Korea. They are made by Panasonic and LG.
There is a large manufacturer in China as well, but not as large as these first two.

The gas lines in the mid 70's was not caused by the Saudis or OPEC. It was was caused by President Carter's price controls.
OPEC found out the hard way that cartels and monopolies are self destructive.

Price controls never work. They always cause shortages.
The dickweed idea of price controls as a solution comes primarily from Democrats.
