    Default Holding steady at six

The number of coronavirus cases continues to climb in the U.S. The new disease has killed six people in the country, four from one nursing home near Seattle and two others in the same county. The cluster of deaths at the nursing facility in King County highlights the serious threat the disease poses to the elderly and infirm. There were just over 100 cases in 15 states as of Tuesday morning, with New Hampshire and Georgia being the most recent to join the battle against the virus.

And it’s misleading. The death toll from Corona isn’t ‘continuing to climb’—it’s the same as yesterday lol. And the deaths are all clustered in the same nursing home in Washington state. Sadly, it’s hardly unusual for the common flu to basically clean out a wing in a nursing home.

    Seven deaths in Washington State

Infection spreading six weeks before we were put on notice

    Stock market falling again today

And the right wing refuses to contextualize the potential harms from these events

If it were contextualized the numbers would be compared to the common flu.

Nursing home patients are probably the most susceptible population in society. In fact, that’s not even an argument.

Why doesn’t the article present that context? Afraid they wouldn’t get as many clicks?

No, contextualization does not require CV to be compared with the common flu. Only you are saying that.

The most at-risk, older males with health issues, will OF COURSE be the majority of those dying.

And the market is down 300 points. I expect it go up again at some point, but how far is a guess.

For context, the CV has a mortality rate of 2 to 3%.

The flu has a 1/10,000 to 1/100,000 rate.

Darth, it is ok to be factual.

Stock Market is down 500 points.

Those stats are misleading because it’s only based on *known cases* of Corona Virus. It’s a near certainty that not everyone with flu symptoms—or has had the flu in the past 8 weeks gets checked.

But for some odd reason, it doesn’t get reported that way.

Those stats make sense in context, and your narrative does not. But if you are arguing the known unknown against the unknown unknown, you are better than even Rumsfeld.

Stock is back up to a down 300.

Even if you don't think a 2% fatality rate is that big a deal, 2% would be 6.4M people dying in the US from this thing.

2% of the global population is 140,000,000 people dying, which is about 10 million more than the total number of people who voted in 2016.

That's definitely not something to dismiss or diminish.

So far, deaths from the common flu far outweigh deaths from the coronavirus that amount to ZERO from a numbers perspective.
