I have been making a variation of this point for maybe seven or eight years now. I was for most of my life in favor of gun control, of limits, but I changed my mind. Part of the reason is because of a multi year running debate we had at A2K, the "gun nuts" as they were called made the better arguments, but also I had by then lost all faith in my governments (national/state/local), I started to look at a well armed citizenry as a protective force. It sucks that as America breaks down more and more people want to murder to hurt to collective, but the government is a much bigger threat to me. Also, I decided that although I am not in favor of suicide, and while suicide greatly harms the collective, trying to prevent suicide is not just cause for grabbing guns.
