It was never a lie. As Lincoln suggested it established aspirational principles that were not achieved by the founding fathers, Lincoln or even by the current generation. Yes, I am unsarcastically glad they brought us along and ashamed that we now seem to be headed in the wrong direction. Imo, the goal becomes more distant when angry children mock and deride the principles because they have not been perfectly realized.

Btw, as for you progressives, which you claim are the force behind realizing the aspirations, one of the early adopters of that label, Teddy Roosevelt, was not very supportive of the ideas that all are equal or immigration.
As Lincoln said, it was an “obvious untruth” that equality existed. Just EXACTLY what I claimed.

Why is that so difficult for you to understand?

Wow, his point went right over your head then. No, Lincoln said, "they did not mean to assert the obvious untruth, that all were then actually enjoying that equality, or yet, that they were about to confer immediately upon them." Of course, they did not. It's quite foolish to infer they were making that assertion.

180 degrees off. That’s very much a conservative value. That’s why you are opposed to any minimum wage hikes and prefer right to work, which hold wages down.

Add in opposed to minority rights and public schools, anti-government and adherence to “tradition” and you have today’s conservative and yesterday’s Democrat.

    Checkmate
LOL! You can't even admit that Democrats think that the rich make their money off the backs of the poor. That's why they favor wealth redistribution.

Democrats also believe blacks are inferior- that's why they support Affirmative Action Forever.

There is no inference. The words are right there.

Let's get his more complete quote. I'll highlight the areas that you are struggling with.

"I think the authors of that notable instrument intended to include all men, but they did not mean to declare all men equal in all respects…. They did not mean to assert the obvious untruth, that all were then actually enjoying that equality, or yet, that they were about to confer it immediately upon them…

They meant simply to declare the right, so that the enforcement of it might follow as fast as circumstances should permit."

In other words, Lincoln's opinion. And his opinion was that it was an obviously untrue that all people were enjoying equality. "As fast as circumstances should permit"? We're still waitng. When do you suppose THAT will occur? In another 250 years?

Of course the rich make money off the backs of the poor, rube. They always have. That's a conservative value and one that the Democrats once held. Now, it's a Republican value. Thanks for proving my point.

Naw, the concept of blacks being inferior are right wing values. Ones for the racists among you. As with every other concept, that of Affirmative Action also escapes you.

Now you do admit that Democrats think that the rich make their money off the backs of the poor. Prior, you didn't. Are you lying now, or before?

I am having no problem with it. You are. You are inferring that they intended to assert that all men were then actually enjoying that equality or that they were about to confer it immediately upon them. No, as Lincoln clearly suggests, they did not intend to assert that.

I am not sure what word you are having trouble with but Lincoln's point went over your head.
Leviticus 19:33 And if a stranger sojourn with thee in your land, ye shall not do him wrong. 34 The stranger that sojourneth with you shall be unto you as the homeborn among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.

We have plenty of wealth redistribution, we subsidize the aristocracy and the Wall Street/donor/"job creator" class to no end. We just did so again with Don's "tax cut".

Privatized gains versus socialized losses for the Wall Street bankster class
Internalized profit versus externalized risk and expense for the "job creator" class
Socialism for the aristocracy versus laissez-faire capitalism for the masses

Sorry, pal. I am inferring nothing. The Declaration did not say "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, which we aspire for all". Not a single word about aspirations. Nor intentions. THAT'S the inference.

Lincoln's suggestions do not make it true. As he said, "obvious untruth". It's that obvious untruth that is not so obvious to you.

    Straightforward English. No clarification needed.
