We don't display the Nazi flag but it is shown in museums. Do you think the complete absence of swastikas would be as effective in portraying the Nazi regime?
Symbols, uniforms, weapons, pictures are all parts of museum displays and help convey an overall atmosphere and understanding of the events. Pictures of dead or malnourished Jews is not pleasant or necessary but helps people understand the history.
Also, wanting to ban something because we don't like its symbolic or historical significance is worse than its display (and reminiscent of Nazis).
What would Bo and Luke Duke put on the roof of their Charger?
Model planes from Europe don't include swastika decals.
Right, but Confederate Flags are displayed in public places, and had been displayed on public lands. Same with the monuments. How do monuments that glorify those traitors teach history? What lesson do they teach?
Right, but all that is in a museum. They're not on display in public places. The people who fought under that flag don't have memorials and monuments to them. Go to Germany, you won't see a single Nazi flag being waved about, but every German knows who the Nazis were and are.Do you think the complete absence of swastikas would be as effective in portraying the Nazi regime
You're veering into sophistry now. It's a poor, lazy look on you.

slavery was the root -no disagreement- although there were other lessor factors as well ( like why Lee took up the Virginia cause).
but they LOST and slave holding was ABOLISHED and DISCREDITED -so why can't we look at our history
like it truly was? That's not "glorification" it's simply accuracy
Right, but all that is in a museum. We are talking about public displays of this shit.
You want to know what that flag really teaches? That depressed white trash people couldn't get over losing, but felt the need to intimidate the people whose very rights they fought to deny.
That's not valuable history, outside of that context.
So if you want to include that dumb flag in a museum, it should come with the description that it was used as a tool to intimidate newly freed slaves and their descendants.
But I doubt that is the history anyone takes from that dumb thing, and I believe you feel the same way.

Really? I think that's a perfect reason to ban it.
The lesson learned from 160 years of that flag is that it's a tool used by depressed whites to intimidate the descendants of the people whose rights that flag sought to deny.
Do you think it teaches anything else? If so, what?

How about an American flag? Then they can call the car The General Sherman.
Or how about nothing at all?
Look! A charger without a Confederate Flag on it! OMG, what will anyone do!?!?!?!?!?!?! Now Flash will forget who lost the Civil War because the General Lee no longer has the racist flag on it.
