I wouldn’t go as far to say we could never colonize Mars.
But the technology is light years away and it may never be possible. The travel time alone is absurd. Much less the costs associated with constructing even a rudimentary ‘living zone’ on Mars is beyond reckoning.
How about we get back to the Moon first lol.

No bloody chance, they still.havent worked out a way to get people to the surface without them ending up dead. Add to that the long journey, being continually bombarded by cosmic rays unless they provide heavy shielding around the crew. Even if they made it safely down to the surface, they would subjected to continuous radiation from space especially when they attempted to go outside to sample the Mars environment.

When [and if] they design a propulsion system to cut the travel time to Mars to weeks or months—then, the idea becomes at least theoretically plausible.

I'm good with robotic exploration. But I'm against the U.S. sending humans back to the moon. It is impractical and unnecessary. JMHO.
IMO, I'd rather the focus, first, be on creating a habitable biosphere type space station, wholly self-sustaining and independent of resupply from Earth, ... asteroid harvesting, and developing economical high speed, low Earth-orbit commercial flight capabilities.

Isn't it funny that you would chastise someone for doing the same things you do? I don't at all care for the idea of a bunch of assholes clomping about on my moon. Leave it be. It's ROMANTIC. It's INSPIRATIONAL. It's SPIRITUALLY IMPORTANT.
It ain't a fucking resource for Capitalism.

First of all, Elon Musck isn't a gov't funded billionaire. Second, none of the millennials I know think humans can colonize Mars. I don't know what 3 or 4 millennials you've talked to but you should have a bigger sample size before you claim that ALL MILLENIALS think a certain way.
That's the problem with you radicalized right wing extremists. You observe a very small sample of people and apply your observation to the whole group. It's a very naive and immature way to reach a conclusion. I hope you don't do the same thing with African Americans or Muslims but I'm guessing that you do because you are so naive and immature.
Judge Juan M. Merchan wrote that Trump “appears to take the position that his situation and this case are unique and that the pre-trial publicity will never subside. However, this view does not align with reality.”
You're an out of touch, clueless old angry, fucking ancient, white orwellian socialist authoritarian.
The certitude that millenials have that they can choose to live on Mars, is so deep, so endemic, so pervasive ... that South Park made an episode mocking the whole millenial belief.

I do not think I have ever met a millennial who told me they are going to have the choice to live on Mars.
I would like to see a credible scientific poll result of millennials that backs your assertion, or else an admission your thread title is inaccurate, wrong, and based on guesswork.
I have also never been a proponent of elderly, cynical dudes making fun of whatever optimism and vision millennials have. Whatever engineering and technological challenges exist for human habitation of Mars, I for one think it is extremely healthy to dream, to have vision, to have optimism. Elon Musk's enthusiasm strikes me as genuine.
The average age of a Trump voter is, what, seventy nine? I do not see the point of infecting millennials with the cynicism, doubt, and pessimism of Trump voters who are not long for this world.
Right. It isn't like we have any better uses for our tax dollars. Those of you who want to dream about it should pay for it yourselves with voluntary taxes. Meanwhile, a huge percentage of our bridges are, "structurally deficient." Flint, Michigan still doesn't have clean water.
