Default "Florida Gets Welfare From New York"

"New York doesn’t add to Florida’s bills—we pay them. In 2017 Florida took nearly $46 billion more from the federal government than it contributed, making it the No. 2 “grantee” state in the nation. New York is the No. 1 “donor” state. In 2017 we gave the federal government $36 billion more than we got back. The curtailment of SALT deductibility takes this gross imbalance and supercharges it, costing New Yorkers another $14 billion each year."

"But SALT was never about economics. It was about politics. Its explicit purpose was to weaponize the federal tax system against predominantly Democratic states. The 12 states most hurt by the limitations on deductibility all voted against President Trump in 2016."

"GOP purports to oppose policies of “redistribution” but President Trump and the federal government are the true redistributors of wealth—not from rich to poor, but from blue states to red states."

    https://www.wsj.com/articles/cuomo-f...rk-11554152628

He could have also added income redistribution from the middle class to the top, amazing how the same people now supposedly hate socialism are in fact some of the greatest proponents of income redistribution

It is Red State Socialism, fact, southern red states living off the blue states dime, yet they'll be the first to label another a "socialist" or "commie," the hypocrisy couldn't be deeper

Louisiana and West Virginia are great examples of Red States where rich Republicans make a killing off fossil fuel extraction and processing with the coal and petro-chemical industries, and thus claim to create lots of great jobs. But somehow, those jobs are not enough to create a vibrant middle class in either of those States. Both States are characterized by rampant poverty, shorter life average spans than the national average (due to widespread pollution from those industries,) and very high TAKE from the federal government. Louisiana gets HALF of the State budget from the Federal government.

Oh, but they wouldn't want to vote for socialism and wealth redistribution. That would kill freedom.

And we know what kind of freedom they create.

The kind that Janis Joplin sang about in Kris Kristofferson's song, Bobbie McGee:

"Freedom's just another word for nuthin left to lose."

First off, I know it is difficult for individuals as yourself to understand, but people living in PR are just as American as you are, or the people who live in DC who have less representation than the State of Wyoming half its size

Secondly, the topic is red states mooching off blue States, or to put it more precisely, red state socialism practiced by the same people that say they hate socialism

    Try to keep up

Ah yes, the Wall Street Journal. That bastion of liberal commie pinko socialism propaganda. </sarcasm> Great post, thanks.

Alaska is a perfect example of a state populated by "We don't want no stinkin' socialism in THIS state," yet the state is a net federal funds recipient. In addition, don't even THINK of touching an Alaskan's annual check from the PFD. That consists of money redistributed from the oil industry and given to each citizen. But they're not socialist, no siree bob. lol

It has been noted that if Alaska were to end the annual free checks to every citizen of the State that the economy would be dealt a serious blow.

This is a moronic argument. In order for stupidity like this to have merit, one must presume that just because Florida went to a Republican, it must be all RED. But it is not. The biggest shit holes in Florida where all this presumed NY City taxes are going are Democratically controlled BLUE shit holes.

In addition, this argument is moronic simply for the fact that NO one can know where all the Federal taxes New Yorkers are paying goes. That is hyperbolic bullshit.

I don't doubt that! BUT the last 2 REP GOVERNORS prior to this one claimed WE were 'givers'. So someone is lying! One caveat. I will assume that the NET +/- is calculated in 'normal' years. I don't know if we are takers because of costs and emergency aid associated with devastating hurricane relief over the past several years.

You are being a moron again. Puerto Ricans are indeed US citizens. Southern states like Florida do suck more money from DC than they contribute, You do have a need to embarrass yourself
