Default "I'll be back"- Governator slams Cali. Zoning laws - Thanks Trump for addressing it

"Schwarzenegger thanks Trump for addressing California homelessness: 'It has become a crisis'

After former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger applauded President Trump for addressing California’s housing and homeless crisis, the former movie star appeared on Fox News on Sunday to explain how the state became plagued by sky-high prices for housing.

“When it comes down to it, California was going through a period where we had kind of had a no-growth movement,” Schwarzenegger told “The Next Revolution” with Steve Hilton.

“Therefore there was no supply anymore so the demand became bigger and bigger and the prices of homes now went up,” Schwarzenegger said, referencing California's “no-growth movement” causing a “disruption” in the supply and demand of housing.

Schwarzenegger said that apartments in Santa Monica or Brentwood, Calif. range from $2,000-3,000 for a one-bedroom apartment and $5,000 for a two-bedroom one.

“No one could afford it except people that made a lot of money so it priced people out of their homes,” Schwarzenegger said.

We've already had a huge battle in the state over SB50 which was the state almost mandating that cities build more housing. Among the arguments against the legislation was the it was a local zoning issue and not something the state should be involved with. Now there is zero question California has had an anti-growth attitude towards housing for decades which is why we have the crisis we do. From a federalist perspective should the federal government force California to build more housing is essentially what it comes down too.

I know you've been sounding the alarm bells on this for years and years.

    Nonsense

the republican governor and their greedy capitalistic agenda is part of the problem.

they let corrupt racist crooks like dump control the real estate market.

there's plenty property in LA but it's not affordable to the average person.

right wing white men have monopolized and capitalized on business, real estate, judicial system, religion and education from the entire USA.

they have been profiting off society's ills since slavery.

the problem is how long is white america going to put up with it?

Have you heard what is happening in Hong Kong?? Cubicles, a couple hundred ft sq or less...

The gubment looks the other way when apt owners split up the units because there are no other alternative housing options-Singapore as well to a lesser extent..

What do you think about your neighbors splitting up their mansions into 5-15 cubicles so the ppl on the street or sleeping in their cars can have a bed & share a restroom & shower??

Interesting. To me apartments are rentals, condos are owned. Any idea which theses are?

There's zero chance someone is going to split apart their multi-million dollar home in the Bay Area (or anywhere really). But there is a big battle over ADU's which allows property owners to build small units on their properties (they are also called granny units).

These are rented & if you watch the vid you will see they are all scared they will be tossed out @ any time......... Most are month to month + deposit..

The prices are outrageous, some are paying as much as $5 a sq foot, as high as some of the most expensive in HK.......

LOL, it usually in middle class neighborhoods & they merely toss up a wall & hook up a elec meter so they pay their own bill.. Skim through the vid, it is pretty sad but most are grateful as they have no other option & they have their life's positions in that space, barely big enough for single sized bed.

It's amazing, the things some people will sacrifice just to have the "Big City' life. Personally, it's not my cup of tea.
