Even if I were a whole hearted supporter of the wall, I would have a problem with one aspect of the Texas section. It creates a Gaza strip on US territory. I have never seen an explanation of why they are planning to do that. I am not sure if it is to give them more time to catch crossers when they are in the no man's land or what but setting the wall back as much as 30 miles from the border seems a bit odd. If I owned land inside that, I would be might miffed as well.

Well then, I guess they just didn't take him seriously! And I'm betting MANY people here never even knew this happened. Irony on steroids. TEXANS having their land TAKEN for a Canadian pipeline company. Amazing how the PARTY of PROPERTY RIGHTS will bludgeon the little guy if they get in the way!!

Keystone XL pipeline is issue of property rights for some ranchers

    By Steven Mufson,

    July 27, 2012

John Harter stood on his ranch in the flat sun, a stiff breeze muffling the sound of his voice. Small sandy mounds rose behind him. In front, lay pasture and grazing cattle. At an old well, he stopped to point to water just five or six feet below the surface. Now he looked back at the row of tall cottonwood trees where his pickup truck was parked.

The Keystone XL pipeline would come through right here, he said.

He doesn’t want it to, and he’s even fought to stop it. It’s not a question of how much TransCanada pays him. He just doesn’t want strangers and heavy equipment tearing a 110-foot-wide gash through his land, cutting down trees and burrowing under the sand hills and pasture.

He worries that it could take years for the land to recover. And the pipeline, buried four or five feet deep, will be sitting in water, the same water that is part of the vast Ogallala aquifer and which lies so close to the surface that his pasture does not need to be irrigated. He worries that a spill or leak will spread because the soil is so porous.

“I worry about what they will do to the tall cottonwoods and what they will do to this view,” he said, “and the beauty of it is irreplaceable.”

But Harter, like thousands of other landowners, doesn’t have much choice. Two days earlier, Harter had been in court trying to stop TransCanada, which had asked a judge to let it exercise eminent domain and force Harter to give it access to his land.

    Harter lost.

The Keystone XL pipeline has reignited the emotional issue of eminent domain — the taking of private property for public use — all along its proposed route. The vast majority of landowners have signed agreements with TransCanada, the pipeline owner. But where necessary, the Calgary, Alberta-based company is busy going to state courts to exercise eminent domain and lining up rights to cross properties throughout the Great Plains — even though the State Department and Obama administration still are weighing whether to give TransCanada’s Keystone XL pipeline a permit to cross the U.S.-Canadian border...

In the end no matter, even IF there is actual bloodshed, they will get the land. Of course it be might be acquired when DONNIE's grandkids have kids.

PS I heard a REPUBLICAN say a couple of days ago these fights will make the Bundy Ranch standown look like a picnic.

Well, yeah. Almost like you would be expected to intercept border crossers -- and also don't expect help if they turn out to be violent (which the vast majority are not). And what about when YOU need to cross the wall for normal living stuff?

Texas even has a town called GUN BARREL CITY. And it didn't start out as GUN BARREL...

The city takes its name from a former road, Gun Barrel Lane (which is now State Highway 198), as well as its motto, "We Shoot Straight with You", and its symbol – a rifle with two crossed antique pistols. The town started out with a biblical name.
"Old Bethel Community". Renamed itself in the '60's'. Gee, I wonder what prompted that?

Trump will have to use eminent domain. There are still lawsuits over that from the Bush administration. The wall is a diversion, a shiny object to distract rightys from seeing what a mess Trump is. Cohen will testify in public in front of the house. Trump will declare that a national emergency and stop it.

Yes, it was the first thing he was going to do. What does it look like? I missed it. And Mexico was going to pay for it, That is why we do not need 5 billion. It is free to us.https://www.politifact.com/truth-o-m...uld-write-che/

That is exactly why it HASN'T BEEN DONE before. This is nothing new. It has every kind of IMPEDIMENT known in law. I doubt TRUMP'S State Dept. even knows where to start on this. This was simply the FOUNDATION PLANK of the assholes very shallow 'weak' platform. It's a ruse. If he and his business weren't getting a criminal RECTAL EXAM this would have been shoved to the side. AGAIN!
