Why yes. It’s just pathetic how all American Presidents have kow towed to China and Trump finally stood up to them.

So why did the Vietnamese have a huge demonstration in Saigon, which I witnessed, against the Chinese taking over the Spratley Islands?

Yes, you are right, despite your pisspoor attempt at sarcasm. You need to get up to speed with events over here, even Thailand is getting mighty pissed off with the Chinese bully boys.

Well you’re wrong. The figures you’re citing are in GDP purchasing parity power and not nominal GDP and the figure that really counts is per capita GDP. In terms of nominal GDP the US represents 25% of the worlds economy. In nominal GDP the US is still $10 trillion annually ahead of China. Then consider that the US per capita GDP, the figure that really counts, is over 7 times greater than China.

Now let’s consider China and India’s populations where each country has more people living in abject poverty than the entire population of the US. This is a monumental problem for both countries which is a great drain on resources and has a huge potential for internal political instability if the problem isn’t addressed.

So yes China’s growing economy presents certain geopolitical issues for the US that will have to be addressed but the sky isn’t falling. Not by a long shot when you consider both internal economic, social and political problems dwarf those of the US.

given population figures it is inevitable.......the country with the most consumers wins as soon as those consumers can afford to buy anything besides bare necessities........

Isn't this the goal, to bring third word countries into the wonders of capitalism?

I really think you don't get it, China is building or planning high-speed railways all over S E Asia. One of those will go through Laos, Thailand down to Singapore and another through Vietnam, the Eastern Seaboard and Bangkok. The infrastructure plans are truly enormous, what's the US doing? The Chinese are currently building 20 new nuclear reactors, expanding their military massively and rapidly overtaking the US and Japan in electronics. Maybe if you came here you'd see all those Chinese, living in abject poverty, swarming around all the shopping malls in Bangkok and Pattaya buying Rolex and Cartier watches? Oh and I ought to add that they have built 20 thousand kilometres of high-speed rail in China, they'll probably build another 10 thousand before California finishes theirs!

Another recent phenomena is Indian tourists, they are everywhere in Pattaya now. There is a huge Indian middle class, bigger than the entire US population and they've got money to burn. As for Russians, they are bloody everywhere Desh would have a blue arsed fit!! Plenty of bots here, mostly attached to really fit looking Russian blonde bints!

Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but rather we have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.

In my opinion, we are under attack by China, a nationalistic ethno-state. They want World Dominance in economics and culture. They have disguised themselves as 'Global Partners', but in reality are practicing a mercantilist approach to National Power. We are under cyber-attack by the Chinese Military, stealing everything they can get their hands on. They provide their State owned businesses with the latest American (and others) technological breakthroughs and advancements. Americans point at their massive Military Machines, "Look at the Big Aircraft Carrier", while China develops the capabilities to render these things useless for pennies on the dollar.

China lands on Far Side of Moon, ... America has Government Shutdown. (Doesn't look too good for the Home Team)

My OPINION on that is that this is a nation that is paranoid and run by paranoia. Most despotic regimes are. Therefore, it is an attempt to tell the world not to try to interfere with their sovereignty and beware if you do.
