Default BP plans big cuts to carbon emissions in net zero push

BP has vowed to slash its carbon emissions from oil and gas production to "net zero" by 2050 as part of the most ambitious overhaul in the firm's 110-year history.

The £96bn oil titan is launching a huge restructuring operation under new boss Bernard Looney, axing its traditional upstream and downstream model - which divides the business of extracting oil from that of selling it – to a different system which puts more focus on green energy.

BP pledged to achieve net zero by 2050 on all operations and oil and gas production. It will also halve emissions from the oil and gas it sells.

So now that so much damage has already been done, they jump on board because they see the handwriting on the wall for the eventual bottom line. I'm sure environmentalist will be watching closely.

Bernard Looney, BP’s new chief executive, said today that it was “no longer enough” to provide reliable and affordable energy, it had to be cleaner too. “For BP to play our part and serve our purpose, we have to change,” he said in a statement. The company said it would need to “fundamentally transform” itself to meet its net zero ambition.

However, the pledge doesn’t cover emissions produced when oil and gas is burned by the firm’s customers, which amounts to BP’s biggest contribution to climate change.

The company also made no promise to rein in hydrocarbon exploration and production over the next decade, which is expected to increase significantly.

    Dear Red-State Trump Voter,
Let’s face it, guys: We’re done.

It is a tragedy that so much of the work that so many men and women toiled at for so long to make this a better country, and a better world, has been thrown away, leaving us all in such needless peril.

This is why our separation in all but name is necessary.

Just looked at his background, he grew up on a fairy farm in Kerry, Ireland's Wild West.

You just know that Cinnabar drives an SUV and use aircon in Summer and gas heating in Winter. These whining bastards are such raging hypocrites.
