It is very simple. There can be no laws requiring a person to be a certain religion or any religion to hold federal office.

There’s no religious test in the constitution but there can be one at the ballot box.

You get points for the Islam/Islamist distinction. Islamism is a political ideology that’s founded in religious precepts. And since the constitution forbids theocracy it effectively ‘bans’ Islamism. If the electorate was better educated on the above distinction then Islamists getting into public office would never present a constitutional issue.

I marvel at how people can be ignorant of such things at this day and age. Egypt banned the Muslim Brotherhood because they are an Islamist organization. Islamists will gladly use democracy to gain power and then advocate some very un-democratic things. Ask any minority in Egypt, they will tell you.

According to the lefties all Muslims are fairy dust. Islamist Muslims know they will enjoy instant-victim status from democrat voters so many democrats are potential Islamist enablers.

The rest of us have to be wary of Muslims running for office. We get called names for it but someone has to play the adults in the room or we risk losing our democracy.
