Houthi Aggression in the Red Sea Strait; Environmental Disaster a Near Miss

PR Newswire PR NewswireJuly 25, 2018

WASHINGTON, July 25, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Coalition Forces to Support the Legitimacy in Yemen's Spokesperson, Colonel Turki Al-Maliki, issued a statement noting that at 1:15 AM, Riyadh local time, a Saudi oil tanker was the subject of a Iranian-backed Houthi militia attack while in international waters, west of the port of Hodeidah, which is under the control of the Houthi militia. The attempted attack was thwarted thanks to coalition naval vessels present in the area at the time. The attack resulted in minor damages to the tanker.

In his statement, Colonel Al-Maliki stressed that this terrorist attack constitutes a grievous hreat to the freedom of maritime navigation and international trade in Bab al-Mandab and the Red Sea, which in turn could cause environmental and economic damage. The continuation of these acts of aggression prove the danger this militia – and those behind them – pose on regional and international security. He also stressed the militia's use of the port as launching pad for terrorist attacks.

Al-Maliki emphasized the Coalitions continued leadership, taking and implementing all measures and means to maintain security and stability. This is part of the Coalition's commitment to making Yemen safe and stable, stressing once again the importance of handing over the province of Hodeidah to the legitimate Yemeni government to prevent its

Maybe letting the people of Yemen vote on who they want to represent them is an idea that might solve the problem?
Or maybe cut it in half, you know like North Yemen and South Yemen?

"On military operations, Col. Al-Maliki confirmed that the Yemeni national army is scoring victories throughout the country, citing the stunning advances of the army on the ground in Saada, Taiz and Al Baidha Governorates.

He drew the attention to the new phenomenon of Houthi recruiting of women to join the army, particularly those who lost their husbands or sons in the war. In an unprecedented flagrant violation of human rights and contrary to Yemen conservative traditions, the Houthi militias dared to enlist women, adding to their children enrollment in the army and giving a new evidence of their barbaric behavior.

Al Maliki declared the Yemeni zone neighboring the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia free of ground-based militias after having been purified by the Coalition Forces and Yemeni national army, citing few pockets of ballistic missiles and projectiles launching platforms in Saada and Omran."

RIYADH: Saudi-led Coalition Spokesperson, Col. Turki Al-Maliki, said on Monday that coalition forces have been making concerted efforts to contact political, social and tribal components in Yemen.

Speaking at the Armed Forces Club in Riyadh, Al-Maliki said that the Yemeni people reject the actions of the Iranian-backed Houthi militia, highlighting the statement of the Yemeni Religious Scholars’ Association, which condemned the Houthis for looting humanitarian aid and called on the international community and organizations to work to prevent these acts.

Al-Maliki also said that an educational campaign had been launched by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center

    Purified of land mines.

There is a huge problem with the Houthis forcing boys as young as 12 to become soldiers.. like the lost boys of Sudan.

    "Summary
The area that comprises Yemen today has traditionally, since the nineteenth century, been divided in two along a north-south divide. What was once North Yemen was part of the former Ottoman Empire during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, while what used to be South Yemen fell under British influence starting in 1839 when the British captured the port of Aden. After the collapse of the Ottoman Empire in 1918, North Yemen became an independent republic while South Yemen continued under the British until Britain withdrew in 1967. British authorities left southern Yemen in November 1967 in the wake of an intense terrorist campaign. The two countries were formally unified as the Republic of Yemen in 1990."

"U.S. Recognition of People’s Republic of Southern Yemen, 1967.
Although the People’s Republic of Southern Yemen gained independence on November 30, 1967, the United States did not recognize it until December 7, when the U.S. consul general in Aden, William L. Eagleton, Jr. informed the new government authorities of the United States’ decision. In 1970, the name of the country was changed to the People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen."

The Communists were fighting the Monarchists back then.. That's why all of Nasser's experienced troops were deployed in Yemen.

    "Yemeni unification"
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Yemeni unification took place on May 22, 1990, when the area of the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen (also known as South Yemen) was united with the Yemen Arab Republic (also known as North Yemen), forming the Republic of Yemen (known as simply Yemen)."

The simple solution is to divide the country. Like it used to be.

On 27 September 1962, revolutionaries inspired by the Arab nationalist ideology of United Arab Republic (Egyptian) President Gamal Abdel Nasser deposed the newly crowned King Muhammad al-Badr, took control of Sana'a, and established the Yemen Arab Republic (YAR).

This coup d'état marked the beginning of the North Yemen Civil War that pitted YAR troops, assisted by the United Arab Republic (Egypt), against Badr's royalist forces, supported by Saudi Arabia and Jordan. Conflict continued periodically until 1967, when Egyptian troops were withdrawn to join the conflict of the Six-Day War.
