Yes. When I was in the 9th grade we were having a discussion about buoyancy in Science class. I mentioned that I had no trouble floating when I needed a rest while swimming. My teacher promptly said, “No offense, but lard does float.” True story.

Same here. I started my boy swimming from very early on. We fish from a boat so much I felt it was necessary for his safety and my piece of mind. He still wore a life jacket while fishing until he was 12 or so.

As you well know, kids learn very quickly when young. Great time to get them learning that. Nice job.

At the YMCA there are kids 6-7 diving to the bottom of the 9 foot pool!
My wife can float perfectly still without treading water.

All of you who do this for kids is awesome! I taught all my children young. Literally sink or swim. About a year old I gave them the float test. Over the side. See what happens. Fortunately we have a very big family. Might have been a little bigger except for the ones that, well, sank........

I'd have to look at the particular "drown proof" technique(we call it "waterproofing"...I imagine most of those programs are the same, though...
(We all swam in our family, as well....no state champs, but one made it to the state meet (back and medley...Swimming is Very competitive here...)
Most of my experience has been with the older kids, though...the toys on the bottom does work well...and it's always best to start before they're old enough to have a bad experience that makes them fearful...Maybe all day cares/preschools should "waterproof"...
I have to tell you .. I admire your success with older kids.. The fear turns them into turtles who try and hold their head and chest up out of the water.

There you go.. Drownproof kids before they are two years old.

The GA Tech thing was a bounce.. Catch a breath and bounce off the bottom.

Thanks ( I'm a retired MS and HS teacher and coach)....great idea from the "Buzz Bee" folks...
Lots of infant and little kid programs...wish there was something for every child...Lots of potentially fatal accidents might be avoided if they don't panic....

That's not racist, just the facts!
Yet you didn't mention all the blacks who get harassed and thrown out of neighborhood pool, did you, racist?
