    Hello leaningright,

Again, these storms roll up suddenly. I wasn’t there so I will not speculate on what should have been done?
If the time to return to safety exceeds the time to warn the Capt of the need to do it, then the cruise was too risky to attempt.

But that's one of the problems with capitalism. Business plans don't allow for turning away business for the purpose of most prudent safety procedures. There is always the pressure to provide a ride if they can fill the boat. I wonder if part of the problem was that they had a large group. Without that one customer, the boat would not have been filled? And it is likely that family only had that one chance to do it while they were all together. The weather was fine when they left. The question needs to be asked: "Should they have left with a forecast that this was possible?"

We all saw the video of the boat struggling against the storm. How much of a chance of being caught in those conditions should they accept when deciding to embark?

If we say none, does that kill that business model?

Will the business model be scuttled anyway because of the canopy issue?

SEVERE thunderstorm warnings should have cancelled any tour on the water that day.
Greed, not wanting to refund tickets killed those hillbillies.

Very, very sad. It was a lovely calm sunny day when they shoved off. The problem was that there had been forecasts of approaching weather...it did not appear out of nowhere. Why on earth the operators had either no knowledge of, or ignored the day's forecast is near unforgivable.

Weather expert on Branson duck boat: Warnings were there and should have been heeded

A former president of the American Meteorological Society says Table Rock Lake had plenty of warning ahead of the disastrous storm that killed 17 people in a duck boat tragedy Thursday.

"The radar clearly showed a very large complex of storms approaching the lake," said Marshall Shepherd, who led the AMS in 2013. "If I had been at the lake under that situation, I would not have gone out."

Shepherd, director of the Atmospheric Sciences Program at the University of Georgia, said he has been following the Branson tragedy.

He said the most important takeaway is that the National Weather Service in Springfield had forecast an outbreak of severe thunderstorms more than six hours before a fast-moving storm lashed the lake with 60-80 mph winds.

He objected to the statement made by the owner of Ride the Ducks that the storm "came out of nowhere."

"Storms like this don't come out of nowhere," Shepherd said. "It was literally on the radar scope for hours. Meteorologists were predicting that part of Missouri was at risk for strong storms days before it happened."

Duck boat timeline: First alert came Thursday

A National Weather Service timeline of its watches and warnings showed it issued its first severe thunderstorm watch for southwest Missouri — including Table Rock Lake — at 11:20 a.m. Thursday.

The storm struck Table Rock Lake around 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening.

"The argument that it came out of nowhere doesn't fly anymore," Shepherd said. "It's 2018, not 1901."

Abortion rights dogma can obscure human reason & harden the human heart so much that the same person who feels
empathy for animal suffering can lack compassion for unborn children who experience lethal violence and excruciating
    pain in abortion.

Unborn animals are protected in their nesting places, humans are not. To abort something is to end something
which has begun. To abort life is to end it.

A lot of them were trapped inside; don't think life vests would have helped. Plus at least one was an infant. So very sad.
