For a long time I doubted it; now I just don't know. I find myself inclined to agree with James Clapper: "More and more I come to a conclusion, after the Helsinki performance and since, that I really do wonder if the Russians have something on him."

Trumpsters think they can answer this by bad-mouthing Clapper, Brennan, Comey and the rest. They are 'Deep State', we are told. Okay ... what about Trump's own appointee as director of national intelligence? Dan Coats says he still does not know what happened at the closed meeting in Helsinki, and wishes Trump had not pursued it. Of course he was neither informed nor consulted about the second summit scheduled for this fall.

Now we hear that the CIA had a highly-placed informant who confirmed Putin's involvement in the cyber offensive. Trump was briefed on this and other sources in JANUARY 2017. Yet over the next 18 months he repeatedly cast doubt on whether there had been any Russian interference, and took no action to stop it happening again.

WTH is going on? Is Trump so irresponsible and pig-headed that he behaves like this from free choice? That's still a possibility - I put it no higher than that.
