Obama's open mic slip on missile defense system

    Published on Mar 26, 2012
President Obama was overheard on an open mic giving outgoing Russian President Medevev a candid political assessment of his ability to deal with relations between the U.S. and Russia, saying he would have more flexibility after the election.

The denial is strong with this one.

TWO things are being said. That is why the article shows the two parts in two separate paragraphs with a space between.

First paragraph or statement (emphasis mine):

One of the things that really I’m happy is that the soldiers that died in Korea, their remains are going to be coming back home, and we have thousands of people that have asked for that – thousands and thousands of people.

Second paragraph or statement (emphasis mine):

So many people asked when I was on the campaign. I’d say, ‘wait a minute, I don’t have any relationship’ – but they said, ‘when you can, president, we’d love our son to be brought back home’ – you know, the remains.

In the first paragraph/statement he is talking about the thousands of people who want the remains to come home. In the second paragraph/statement he is talking about the parents. He describes their number only as “so many people”.

“So many people” doesn’t mean thousands. Thus - no lie. The mischievous editing once again took an event and described it out of context, unfairly, in order to create a "lie".

So who was this mischievous creator?

The reporter was this young guy, with the appropriate name John Haltiwanger.

He is the anti-Trump millennial who wrote this glowing advertisement for Democratic Socialism.

He grew up in Washington DC and has a Bachelor of Arts (2010). Then he was an unpaid volunteer English teacher in a government school in Georgia (which borders Russia, Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan. From there he went to Glasgow to study International Relations. Back home in the U.S. he tried to freelance as a writer before finally getting a job in 2017 as a breaking news writer for left winged Newsweek, and now works for left winged Business Insider.

Why does this matter? It matters because when you see the article is from Business Insider you imagine a table full of crusty old cigar smoking political wise guys, not some young metrosexual with no understanding of politics.

How does it feel, to be hoodwinked by little Johnny Haltiwanker?
You highlighted the wrong line. Should have been "So many people asked when I was on the campaign. I’d say, ‘wait a minute, I don’t have any relationship’ – but they said, ‘when you can, president, we’d love our son to be brought back home’ – you know, the remains."

And how old were these parents who asked their son be brought home?

All POTUS’ find themselves in this position from time to time – that’s politics, especially in regard to global adversaries and diplomatic relations with them. Trump doesn’t run the GOP, and when they insist he do something he will have to bend to their wishes. Now, before you call the GOP liars for this, as I said, many mistruths are told by political parties regarding their global enemies – that’s politics, war and life in general. We don’t sum it up as “lying”. It’s called politics and world diplomatic relations.
You provide no evidence Trump was "forced" to say anything. Can you provide proof? You have been presented with clear evidence he lied and rather than accept it say he was forced to lie (which is still a lie). Who "runs" the GOP that forced him to lie? He runs the GOP as much as anybody since the president is the titular party head.

I didn't mention "thousands" it's highly unlikely ANY parents asked for their SONS' remains let alone enough to be called "so many". Do we have a record of how many 100+ year old people talked to Trump during the campaign? Use your fucking brain.

Did anyone else see thousands of people in Jersey City cheering on 9/11? No. Is there a video record of these celebrations? No. This leaves two possibilities: either Trump imagined he saw something that wasn't there, or he made it up.

As with so many of Trump's false statements, it's unclear whether the explanation is stupidity or mendacity. But one thing you can be sure of: he will never retract it.

It was one of those crazy rumors people repeat after major events.

Yes it was a crazy rumor, but Trump insisted that he SAW it. Next day he doubled down: "It was on TV, I saw it."

After falsely claiming that immigrant families were being separated at the border because of Democrats and arguing that he was unable to do anything about it, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to keep children and parents together in detention.

I get it that online political forums are basically a place to waste time and shoot the breeze, but are we really seriously discussing trump lies with some one who is pretending Trump has never lied. I like wasting time as much as anyone...but really?
