    Default The Kavanaugh Fight

Can anyone who supports it explain it to me? I get giving him a tough, thorough hearing - but if he's qualified, he should win the vote going away.

I don't see the purpose of an ideological fight, for the following reasons:

    1) Dems will lose. He will be confirmed. It's math.
    2) They'll hurt their chances in red state seats that they could win.
    3) Even if #1 is wrong and they somehow peel off a Republican or 2 and get him rejected - it just lines up the NEXT ultra-conservative nominee. Trump has a long list of 'em - they don't get any more liberal, or any more favorable toward Roe, voting rights, the ACA, etc.

I don't understand the "oppose him at all costs" rhetoric right now. Dems had their chance in 2016 - this is how things work; we have a Republican President, and he's going to choose a conservative justice.

    Did Democrats get their chance?

This is not that day. If this is just a "revenge" fight, Dems are cutting off their nose to spite their face. This kind of partisan posturing (in a cause that they are 99% likely to lose) only hurts them with independents and the electorate.

They should have had a third nomination. Garland should have been approved.

The Garland thing will tick me off for the rest of my days. McConnell set his legacy w/ that - the ultimate party over country move. Pure partisan, inside-the-beltway politics.

I just hope Democrats are thinking about the goal here. Is it just revenge? I don't think anyone is thinking through the end game of this. Even if they pull off the impossible & get Kavanaugh rejected, it just lines up the next far right winger.

Controversy=Free Election Year Media. They have so many races to bankroll compared to the GOP to hold or gain ground that they need all the help they can get. The vast majority of people support abortion being legal in some or all circumstances as opposed to those who oppose it in all circumstances so this fight plays up the DNC agrees with me to 70 odd percent of the voters.

But he wasn't. Time to move on. Elections have consequences and all that.

I personally don't care who sits in it. They could leave the seat vacant for 20 years and I still wouldn't care who sits in it. Will be a hack shill either way. The days of great minds on the Court are long since history.

You don’t care because you have no skin in the game, you aren’t a minority, gay, transgender or a woman. It’s a real easy declaration to make.

Its also easy tell someone to get over it for the same reason.

This Judge is not what either side is making him out to be. He is honest, non partisan, and if selected is going to surprise people on both side of the aisle with his fairness.

Most boring fight in the world, outcome is already decided. Who gives a fuck.

As if those are the only cases that get heard. Could you be more dramatic? I own property and that was certainly an issue in that ridiculous case a few years back about eminent domain. I pay taxes and that comes up from time to time like with Obamacare. It is an easy declaration to make because most people are so far removed from these decisions they are much ado about nothing. There are exactly zero abortion clinics in my city. It isn't like even Roe will be relevant outside places like California and New York.
