Default Republican Senators Celebrate Old-Fashioned All-American 4th Of July In Moscow

A whole bunch of Republican US senators (and one member of the House) spent Independence Day in Moscow so they could tell Russia that America dearly loves Russia and won't lecture it too much about little things like hacking the 2016 election (or maybe the 2018 one!) or invading Ukraine and annexing Crimea, because after all, isn't peace a beautiful thing? No Democrats went along on the trip, because as Duma member Vyacheslav Nikonov explained, "Since the Democrats actively accuse the Republicans of selling out to the Russians, it would naturally be strange if Democrats here were part of the group."

The Republican delegation to Moscow did at least manage to spend July 4 at the US ambassador's residence, where they sang the Star Spangled banner and insisted they only want what's good for Donald Trump the American and Russian people.

This July Fourth, a congressional delegation is visiting Moscow for the first time since Russia's annexation of Crimea.

I'm sure it's perfectly innocent. They're just there to discuss trade. Yeah.... trade. Maybe new markets for all the stuff our farmers and manufacturers can't sell now because of the tariffs.

I bet you'd find it strange that no white people attended a Black Panther meeting, too.

Their reception in Moscow wasn't exactly warm.

I spent a lot of 4th of July's in hostile lands doing the business of the government, so do a lot of other people. It's always amusing to hear leftards like guano basically tell us that 1) Trump is leading us to war 2) democrats do a MUCH better job on foreign affairs, and 3) if we're in a tiff with someone, the best strategy is to have no contact with them, that'll teach 'em!

That's Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana. He says other issues that came up were Russia's military involvement in Ukraine and in Syria, as well as arms control.
oh well..nothing to see here..move on

Trump and his Republican sychophants are basically offering the Kremlin concessions before even getting anything in return. I actually cannot believe the Republicans are putting out trial balloons that they will recognize the Kremlin's illegal invasion and territorial grabs in Ukraine.

It almost makes you think Putin really is Trump's "handler".

The Russians are good at catching the faintest whiff of weakness, and the way the Republicans are groveling and hinting at concessions before getting anything in return, is going to be interpreted by the Kremlin as abject weakness. The Kremlin must actually be laughing at their luck at getting Trump elected

    where do you see concession?
Best learn that Crimea is historically Russian, and Putin isn't leaving- given that- what's the best move?

Deal. Recognize the Crimean referendum , and in return get something on Syria/Donbass.
    *oh no not that!!*

Irrelevant. It was the sovereign territory of the nation of Ukraine.
We fought a civil war because some citizens of the south thought they wanted to be a separate nation.

You are not allowed by international law and convention to invade a neighboring state and take their territory.
    Period. End of story.

You are allowed to negotiate and advocate for Crimean independence.

Does not matter if Crimea was culturally Russian. Does not matter if it was under Kremlin, or Tsarist jurisdiction half a century or 200 years ago.
Some would argue - and with merit - the Ukrainians, Russians, and Belarusians are not distinct national cultures anyway, they are all relatively minor variants of a common East Slavic/Rus heritage and culture. Still does not give anyone the right to take territory under the force of arms.
