Republican strategist Steve Schmidt, one of the GOP's loudest critics of President Trump, renounced the party early Wednesday and announced that he will begin voting for Democrats.
Schmidt slammed Trump in a Twitter thread, saying he was leaving the party that once ended slavery.
“29 years and nine months ago I registered to vote and became a member of The Republican Party which was founded in 1854 to oppose slavery and stand for the dignity of human life,” Schmidt tweeted.

“This Independent voter will be aligned with the only party left in America that stands for what is right and decent and remains fidelitous to our Republic, objective truth, the rule of law and our Allies. That party is the Democratic Party,” Schmidt wrote.
Schmidt called for a blue wave to bring back Democratic majorities in the 2018 midterm elections.

schmidt has been a never trumper from the start. There are new parties now and he belongs with the democrats.
Righties have seen him as a turncoat since Trump took office, but he's just one of the ones who kept his head, and didn't fall under the spell.
All they do is denounce rational voices now. Rationality is discouraged for Trump's GOP.

when we elected Trump as opposed to the 20 or whatever guys he was running against we did so because we elected a different direction than what those 20 or so guys represented. Some have bent the knee like zodiac killer so we welcome them back as they have actual power we could use but some like schmidt here refuse to acknowledge the results.
The entire 2012 "autopsy" was a thinly veiled attempt to get the gop to accept more illegal immigration on the threat of never winning another election again. That was the doing of people like Schmidt. We do still share some same goals with him but there are some things we cannot compromise on and if those are his primary concerns then he is welcome to join the democrats.
Most will end up regretting their support for Trump. He will be the face of the GOP for years - and that won't be a good thing.
Every time I see Kasich on one of the cable shows, I'm still astounded that someone as capable, intelligent & accomplished as him did not get the nomination, and that you allowed for someone like Trump instead. It's tragic, really. It will go down as one of the real lost opportunities in American history.

Maybe if Kasich hated Mexicans enough and blew that dog whistle a little louder, he would have gotten to be the GOP nominee -- he would have lost however because another thing Trump had going for him that Kasich doesn't is wealth worship and celebrity status.
People worship wealthy people and famous people -- Trump is both -- and the new thing that Republicans worship is trolling for the sake of trolling -- something else Trump is a master at...
So if anyone in the future wants to get the GOP nomination, you better be more Trump than Trump is -- because the base definitely is -- especially when you get em into a crowd and rile them up
ROFL.
This is the Steve Schmidt Schmuck on Morning Joe!! what a surprise not!
