It is not so much the fall of the 'American Empire' as it is the rise of the rest of the world.

At the end of WWII, it is only logical that the USA was on top. We were one of the few industrialized nations which was NOT bombed to smithereens.

We had a HUGE HEAD START on the rest of the industrial world.

So now the rest of the world has caught up.

American exceptionalists can't stand it. Their problem is they believed the BS that America, and Americans, were 'better' than the rest of the world. Baloney. It was geography. It was just physically impossible to mount any kind of large attack on the US homeland.

Having your nation intact is a huge advantage over having your nation utterly destroyed.

It's kinda fun pointing out your bull shit. No links, nothing to argue with, only insults. "You're an asshole" is not a debating point.
    I think you're pretty dumb.

I started laughing at that last sentence after the first two words.

C'mon, you know you don't do thinking.

I understand that FA might appreciate the superficial appearance of "excellence" in this quotation.

But it reflects badly muddled thinking.
It's true that the U.S. had an industrial advantage over Germany & Japan after WWII.

    BUT !!

With the Marshall Plan and so on those former adversaries turned allies were not merely restored.
But because the new equipment they bought with our $money was newer, more up-to-date,
these two nations soon had more modern industrial base than the U.S.

That was generations ago. Globalization has shuffled the deck.

Those WWII advantages are virtually gone. The industrial infrastructure acquired in the 1950's is now 70 years old, literally human generations old.

And with 3rd millennium industrial innovations, computerized production* for example, that Marshall Plan equipment advantage is gone.

Any industrial advantage to be found in Bangalore India, or Beijing China can also be found in Peoria Illinois.

The point about U.S. ascendancy is that through innovation and assiduous culture, the U.S. advanced more rapidly than our competition.

It didn't happen overnight. It took decades of slow, incremental progress.

Thus tariffs aside, the U.S. competes on a more or less level playing field. If we're losing that race, something else is wrong. So back to Krugman:
"The U.S. government is, as a matter of policy, literally ripping children from the arms of their parents and putting them in

fenced enclosures (which officials insist aren’t cages, oh no). The U.S. president is demanding that law enforcement stop

investigating his associates and go after his political enemies instead. He has been insulting democratic allies while

praising murderous dictators. And a global trade war seems increasingly likely." Krugman
Krugman isn't referring to markets here. The decline ("fall") Krugman refers to in the article is the wholesale abandonment of the principles that made U.S. great.

So the president of the party of family values is breaking up families at our border, and according to some reports some of those families may never be reunited.

This is exceedingly bad karma ladies & gents. And while you may not feel personally responsible for a 4 year old child crying inconsolably in a cage,

these atrocities are being conducted by your nation, the government YOU pay tax to support.

Whether you voted for Trump, or against Trump, or not, it's YOUR nation.

We abandon our principles wholesale, the principles that made US great, and then puzzle over why we are in decline ?!?!

    * computer controlled production equipment improves product uniformity, lowers labor costs, thus increasing profits
"It should be obvious to anyone why conservatives and libertarians should be against Trump. He has no grounding in belief. No core philosophy. No morals. No loyalty. No curiosity. No empathy and no understanding. He demands personal loyalty and not loyalty to the nation. His only core belief is in his own superiority to everyone else. His only want is exercise more and more personal power." smb / purveyor of fact 18/03/18

Yeah, as if the nation isn't crazy enough!

I am quite certain much of the nation could not HANDLE playing golf.

It totally messes up your head.

Look what it has done to the President!

(and he cheats at it - no lie - that has been documented)
