    11 inches of rain in KSA is unheard of... and the lakes are temporary.. But, it should make good pasture for a couple of years.

    It's rare granted, but it happens occasionally. The last time was two or three decades ago.

    Sometimes you have torrential rains in Jiddah or even Riyadh, but I have never heard of one the the Rub al Khali.

    They have found hippo bones there, so must have been lakes in the past.

    I was under the impression that it was 10,000 years ago or longer when the Persian Gulf was a river to the Indian Ocean and that may still be true, but less than 5,000 years ago there were two rivers that came out of the Rub al Khali.
