Default Most Conservatives Still Believe The Civil War Wasn't Over Slavery

    http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com...des-americans/

So after 150 years, the majority of conservatives still believe the Civil War wasn't over slavery?

Why is this? Why do they believe the "States Rights" claim is sufficient enough to shield them from the fact that -- those states rights were those states preserving the right to maintain slavery -- so either way you slice it, the civil war was over slavery -- whenever I see a conservative twisting themselves into pretzels to claim otherwise --- it makes their subsequent claims of not being racist look foolish.

Next time conservatives want to pretend that the Civil War wasn't over slavery -- they better travel back in time and tell all of those southern states to stop telling everyone it was over slavery

Because they want to believe it. That mind set allows them to back Trump too.

    this stupid shit again

The revolutionary war 2.0 was about independence.

Calling this a civil war is a bunch of bullshit. A civil war is a fight over control of the state - that is not what happened. It was a fight to be free of a state and form another - exactly the same as the revolutionary war.

the reason we fought a war is the South left. You can look into the reasons the South left - and slavery certainly was high on that list

But claiming the North fought the south to stop slavery is idiotic. They marched troops to prevent the South from leaving. period. the end. You can perform all the mental retard gymnastics you want (and lord knows the left excels in this), the fact is the war was fought to prevent the south from leaving.

They lost the battle -- but the war obviously still continues

Just like they continue to rewrite history about the Confederacy

They will rewrite history about Civil Rights, etc etc etc

Until a system of blatant discrimination is just nothing but good old religious freedom and liberty again

And let's not forget the scripture that Sessions quoted to justify his treatment of snatching kids away from their mothers -- that same quote was used to justify slavery.

The Civil War was about secession. Secession was about slavery. You can argue that there is no distinction, but, in 1861, Lincoln knew there was no will to fight for slavery. By 1863, he knew that the national mindset was changing, and so he issued the Proclamation, which historians say altered the war aims from that point on.

America was attacked by Confederate troops. We didn't just march down and start attacking for no good reason.

    "we" bwahahaha. idiot

you didn't actually reply to the point. The war was fought over leaving or not leaving. Troops marched south to prevent leaving. shots were fired to signal the full intent to leave. Everything was about leaving vs not leaving. That was the reason for war.

Most snowflakes believe it was. When in reality the subject of slavery was not mentioned until Lincoln was campaigning for a second term. Lincoln is quoted as declaring he could care less about slavery he would be for it if it would end the war or against it if it would end the war. My question is if it actually was about slavery why did the state of Maryland (a slave holding state by their state rule of law) fight for the north?
