Default Interesting primary outcomes from last night

So the results are in and they are interesting to say the least. A couple of highpoints. California has a unique primary system wherein the two top vote getters face each other in the election. This was put in place by the democrats in an effort to squeeze out Republicans. Think of it as a way of gerrymandering without redrawing districts.

    * It looks like the democrat party avoided being skunked out of some races. They had so many left wing candidates that it was thought they might dilute their vote too much. The democrat party had to scramble to trash progressive candidates

    * In a surprise, a Republican made it in the gubernatorial race to face off against Gavin Newsom. It was widely thought that it would be a race between two democrats; Newsom and Antonio Villaraigosa, but that didn't happen

    * CA state senator Josh Newman (D-Fullerton) looks like he will be recalled for supporting the gas tax and replaced by Republican Ling Ling Chang, which means Democrats will lose their supermajority in the state senate.

Now what does all of this mean for November? Well it means a few things in my view

    1) The gubernatorial race will help down ballot races. While Newsom is going to be the heavy favorite and will most likely win, having Cox on the ballot will give beleaguered Republicans in the state someone to rally behind at the top of the ticket which should help with down ballot races which could mitigate democrat pickups in California. The democrat party's hopes of taking back the House rest in California as they thought they could pick up 7 seats.

    2) The democrat party has made two critical mistakes heading into November that could potentially animate voters against them. The first is the gas tax that got Josh Newman recalled. The second is their passionate defense of sanctuary cities and MS13 which pits law abiding citizens against criminals.

Needless to say, the November election just got more interesting
