If a team determines that kneeling during the anthem presents a negative image of the company then they can prevent employees from doing it or be subject to dismissal. At least that was the gist of all the CBA's I worked under. (I'm not referring to this topic but in general.)

The fact is that nobody has told players they cannot kneel. They have assigned a consequence to the teams if their players kneel.
