It's the black people in my State that are uneducated, poor, racist and vote Democrat. In fact, of the congressional districts here, only one is blue and it's also the only one with a greater than 20% use of food stamps. Demographically, it's over 60% black. It also has the lowest median income of all the districts. Seems like a bad combination for success.

I'm not arguing I'm having a discussion. Check out Figure 7 for national poverty rates. This doesn't list the states in order unfortunately but the SPM is a newer and better measure of poverty.

California has the highest poverty rate in the country. Boston is the most racist city. The history of the South is out there for all to see but it does not have a monopoly on racism and poverty.

No one has claimed that here, right?

I would like to see *all* of our citizens --*all* of our states -- become prosperous, educated, healthy. The original discussion is about the South turning away from the failed politics of the (R)s and looking to a brighter future with the (D)s. I'm all for that. It's pretty obvious that an (R) hegemony has not been beneficial to them.

In my State, all but one of the congressional districts is Red. The only Blue one has a 60% + black population and is, by far, the poorest in the State. It's the ONLY district where more than 20% use food stamps. Coincidence? No, just as expected.

You didn't say the word monopoly but you made no reference to other parts of the country where poverty and racism flourish. Boston is one of the most educated cities in the country yet its the most racist.

Check out the Governorships and state legislatures of many of the Southern states. They have not been in Republican control for all that long. There is a looong history of Democratic rule there.

Ah, the tried and false "Democrats are racist and Klan members" canard. Fail.

George Wallace was a (D). He was also a world-class racist. When (D) Presidents forcibly integrated Southern schools, and Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Southern Dems deserted the party and fled into the willing arms of the (R)s... who were and remain just as racist as the former (D)s, if not even more so. And that is where the South has remained for almost five decades now.

One thing that made the (R)s more attractive over time to those folks.... their switch from supporters of publicly-funded science, technology, and higher education (esp. in the STEM fields) to what you see in that party today. Spiro Agnewesque slurs against the "elites". Attacks on universities as "liberal nests". The cozying up to Xtian evangelicals who want the Bible, prayers, and their religion as part of public school daily life.

That's not even close to what I was saying. I googled a couple of the states and looked at the governors history and state legislatures. There are Southern states that had Democratic Governors in the 2000's. Same with state legislatures. They have not been under Republican rule for that long. And look at where the fastest growing cities are. They aren't in the blue northeast. They are in the South. Your Charlottes, Nashville, Atlanta, Dallas'. Business friendly policies and cheap cost of living. The South is growing and changing.

Eight of the 15 cities or towns with the largest population gains were located in the South in 2017, with three of the top five in Texas, according to new population estimates released today by the U.S. Census Bureau.

“San Antonio, Texas, tops the list with the largest population gain with an increase of over 24,200 people – an average of 66 people per day between 2016 and 2017,” said Amel Toukabri, a demographer in the Population Division of the Census Bureau. “That’s a growth rate of 1.6 percent. This growth was enough to push San Antonio's population above the 1.5 million mark.”

Some of the other cities with the largest population gains were Phoenix, Ariz. (24,000); Dallas, Texas (18,900); Fort Worth, Texas (18,700); Los Angeles, Calif. (18,600); Seattle, Washington (17,500); and Charlotte, N.C. (15,600).

Regarding percentage change in population, 10 of the 15 fastest-growing large cities were located in the South, with seven in Texas. Between 2016 and 2017, Frisco, Texas (near Dallas), was the fastest-growing large city (population of 50,000 or more) at 8.2 percent, making its growth rate more than 11 times faster than the nation’s growth rate of 0.7 percent. See below for some of the other fastest-growing large cities.

People can vote however they so desire but I think the proof is in the pudding as to the business friendly policies that these states have implemented that are allowing them to grow.

This apparently will be a shock to you and NBC, but most of the south is violet and has been for quite awhile. The DNC just won't spend money to win there.
