Massachusetts announced plans Wednesday to build a wind farm off the coast of Martha's Vineyard that will generate enough energy to power 400,000 homes.

The state said Vineyard Wind will build a 800-megawatt offshore wind farm — the largest-ever procurement of offshore wind by a state.

The fishing industry and local communities pretty much fought this the whole way. When they say "included" they had a few open meetings with the BOEM who listened to concerns, and basically had no answers. Dog and pony show at the best.

The fishermen wanted to start with an initial 400 megawatt system and from what I have read that is what they are doing initially with a 800 megawatt transmission cable that will eventually bring the other 400 online. They got what they asked for.

Overfishing should be more of a concern than wind farms. These wind farms may actually benifit fishermen by preventing them from overfishing.

BTW, clean coalers never bitch about off shore oil wells. Wind farms do not leak oil. WTF? Debunk me if you dare.
