Uninstalling is not always a clean uninstall - even doing a separate registry cleaner afterwards leaves pathways.
These are anti malware and active web protection as well. They dig in deep.
Not that I am going to uninstall because I am afraid of da Russian hackers
Use Ubuntu/Kubuntu, you never ever have to worry about viruses ever again.

I use MalewareBytes too ( $20/yr. paid - license for my work computer and wireless devices) -if something does get thru like ransomware -MalwareBytes scan will remove it.

The 2 are a great combination, and don't interfere with each other
None should get through either now even with Windows defender built into the OS, but apparently they do. I haven't had a virus that I know of in years so I guess they are all getting better.

Windows Defender doesn't offer much. at least add a free anti-virus scan like Avast.

Be sure you have Crapcleaner -fixes most issues like slow operations-also free.

I have my own combination of tools. Just saying that stuff does get through even when the software providers pretend it doesn't. Never hurts to try out something new from time to time to check the seams for leaks. I personally hate Avast. Tried it a couple times. One thing it did was try to make me pay because they had determined that I was using one of the computers for business purposes i violation of their free licensing. That they were spying on my computer use was a red flag. It was a home computer I sometimes used for work so I have no idea how they even determined that I was using it for business purposes sometimes.

I'm thrilled with Kaspersky and MaleWareBytes - they operate well together
