Default Apparently I owe the I.R.S. $9372.36 and they want it in Target Gift Cards...

An IRS automated call told me to call them at a number in NYC for some reason and that if I didn't the "local police agency" was coming to arrest me...

I called and they told me to pay them in Target Gift Cards...

Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but rather we have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.

Believe nothing on the faith of traditions, even though they have been held in honor for many generations and in diverse places. Do not believe a thing because many people speak of it. Do not believe on the faith of the sages of the past. Do not believe what you yourself have imagined, persuading yourself that a God inspires you. Believe nothing on the sole authority of your masters and priests. After examination, believe what you yourself have tested and found to be reasonable, and conform your conduct thereto.

Did the voice have a strong ' Nigerian' accent?
Did he mention he was a Prince, or something like that?

Those are two red flags for me.

I guess there has to be a certain amount of ridiculousness in these set-ups, because, you want to be certain that the people who bite are legitimately stupid enough to truly fall for the scam. That's why the Bank of Nigeria strikes me as completely out of left field, yet, must have raked in some decent proceeds by now. People who roll their eyes would also be skeptical if they were informed the bank was Wells Fargo or Chase.

I've worked with people in this kind of trouble over the years...and I can get the whole thing taken care of for almost about half that amount.

Do not send them any money!

I will contact you in a personal memo...and work out details for you to send #$4600 to me. I will do the work immediately...and you will be able to contact the IRS in Washington (I'll supply the number) and they will tell you that you are home free.

Common sense is not a gift, it's a punishment because you have to deal with everyone who doesn't have it.

best one I've seen was a client who received a check in the mail for $2000, wanted me to check it out.......looked like a legit bank check, but when I contacted the bank for an explanation, learned that the fake routing numbers actually transmitted sufficient information to an out of country source to permit someone to wire money OUT of a bank account....

There are a variety of scams going on. I feel a little guilty about abusing a guy with a thick Indian accent last week. He called me on my cell, and asked if I'd used (forgot the name of the company, but it's like Western Union) for a money transfer recently.

I know that some scams just try to get you to speak key words that will be recorded and used later when they sign up for credit lines in your name.

So...I refuse to say the word 'yes', whenever I get these calls.

I was snotty with this guy, and asked "do you show that I used that company to transfer money?"

He replied in the affirmative, and I got even more snotty.

Turns out, he was legit, and just had the wrong number. He apologized 4 times, and I felt a little guilty about abusing him.

    Almost.

Give me your social security number, and bank account number, and I'll deposit the money into your account.

I keep getting this call about I have just been awarded 9k for being a law abiding citizen with no police record. I replied that I just got out of prison and they hung up. I get the same call all the time and these are some of the things I reply:

I got the body out, mabel, but there was a lot of blood. Would you come over to help me clean it up?

Fine! Would you send it in cash w/certified mail.

No thank you, I have too much money, now.

Thank you. Would you send me your banking account number and pins?

OK! I accept. Send it to me immediately using Pay Pal, poste restante.

    We need to talk.

I'm busy fucking your mother now.

Always with a foreign accent. I am hard of hearing in the first place and it sounds like they are talking in tongues.

Almost every day I get an Email telling me my bank accounts have been suspended due to "suspicious activity" and all I need to do is give them my password, user name and ss# and they will reactivate my account.
    They always do.
My thoughts and prayers go out to these wonderful banks for being so diligent in finding ways to protect me from scammers who want to steal my money.
I thank God they take such measures to protect me from cyber-theft.

You should absolutely pay them or they can freeze your assets, garnish your wages, put you in jail and seize ownership of your house.
The IRS uses Target gift cards as legal tender now. Trump authorized it in an executive order. I think I read about it in Forbes.
