It’s society and the way in the past women were steered to certain fields and discouraged in others, the same with men. I had a male friend who decided to be a nurse in the 70’s, people thought him to be odd, and when he walked in the hospital room people thought he was the doctor. Hear hear. One of my school friends just graduated with a degree in physics; she's headed off to SUNY in the fall for a masters. Another school friend has a masters in astrophysics, and yet another is majoring in mechanical engineering. My daughter-in-law also has a degree in industrial engineering.
