I suggest that part of the problem is that a lot of the drivers are getting older and are retiring; but the newer generations apparently find this kind of work to be unappealing and have no interest in being a driver.
SEDITION: incitement of resistance to or insurrection against lawful authority.

The United States has had a truck driver shortage for years, but experts say it's hitting a crisis level this year. There's even more demand for truckers now as just about every sector of the economy is expanding and online sales continue to soar. On top of that, the federal government imposed a new rule in December that requires drivers to be on the road for no more than 11 hours at a time and track their time by an electronic device so they can't cheat.

Well as the article says the economy is hot so would be truckers are finding more stable jobs at home. The military is the same good economy enlistments go down bad economy enlistments go up.

That and the industry lost a lot of drivers who never returned after the recession.

Might be. I know a few folks locally who never returned after the recession. Work was sporadic and paychecks for what little work they had done even more so.

Will I see a lot of people who think $40K a year is worth the suck of that job there in the midwest?
