I have used McDonalds and Starbucks several times in the past when caught short in somewhere like London. Never had anyone challenge me to buy something first.

I think most people ‘have been caught short’ lol, and used a restroom in a McDonald’s at some point.

But we used it for its intended purpose then went about our business. But the homeless and druggies are another issue.

Businesses should be allowed to protect their business.

The larger size, and typically larger crowds, of burger joints, such as McDonalds, has certainly made it convenient for that purpose throughout my life. I do feel that my presence would be much more easily noticed at a Starbucks, so, I have largely avoided utilizing one except when at least purchasing a token beverage.

I've also witnessed what happens when it's used as a "hang out", by those who are just there.

It seems like most of the time that the employees don't want to confront someone and I've seen people get up and leave; because of the delusional rantings or the begging for money.
When someone does call the Police (usually a patron) and the Police show up, there usually already familiar with the person; because of similar issues at the same place.
