    THEY DEMAND HIGHER PAY

A teacher in Florida allegedly drowned two raccoons and an opossum with help from students, school officials and parents said.

Dewie Brewton, who teaches at Forest High School in Ocala, was placed on administrative leave with pay and removed from the classroom “pending the outcome of a district investigation,” Marion County Public Schools officials told the Ocala Star-Banner.

“We received statements that the teacher drowned multiple animals in front of students, and with student participation, because the animals were nuisances,” spokesman Kevin Christian said.

One of Brewton’s students who attended Monday’s class came home in tears after the raccoons were drowned and the opossum was later killed “just for sport,” the boy’s mother told WKMG.

“It made me sick,” the mother told the station. “It made me sick to my stomach. It’s terrible. It still does make me sick to my stomach.”

Video footage recorded by the woman’s son shows a raccoon trapped inside a metal cage placed inside a garbage bin that was then filled with water.

“That one’s, like, super, super small,” one girl in the video says of the animals. “That one probably didn’t do anything.”

“When the raccoons tried to come up for air, they had metal rods and they held them down with metal rods and when the raccoon would try to pop its head up, they held water hoses in its face to drown it,” the woman said.

“I don’t think that’s the way to treat any animal,” she said.

A spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said an investigation is under way to determine if criminal charges are warranted in the incident. The findings will then be presented to the state attorney’s office, WKMG reports.

Brewton was Forest High School’s Teacher of the Year nominee in 2010.

    UNDERPAID?

A teacher is the second person arrested and charged with felony computer tampering in a grade-changing scandal at W.S. Neal High School in East Brewton.

Lisa Odom was arrested and released from jail on a $5,000 bond.

Earlier this week, a student at the school, Matthew Hutchins, 18, was arrested in the same investigation.

Hutchins is accused of using a computer to change grades for himself and possibly others in a scandal that has caused major problems for the high school as it tries to select a valedictorian for the upcoming graduation.

    DESERVING, OR PERVING?

A Mayflower High School art teacher was arrested on a charge of first-degree sexual assault Tuesday.

Jessica Kaplan, 31, was being held in the Faulkner County jail. She was booked at 7:47 p.m., according to the jail website.

The arrest came after Mayflower police announced it was investigating a report of "sexual contact" between a Mayflower High School teacher and a student. The department said it began looking into the report Monday, but did not release further details on the case.

This year was Kaplan's first at Mayflower High School, according to the school website.

Kaplan was being held on $30,000 bail Tuesday night.

Under Arkansas law, first-degree sexual assault occurs when a person "engages in sexual intercourse or deviate sexual activity with a minor" and is in a "position of trust or authority over the victim" or is an employee in the victim's school or school district.

HIS UNION IS A MAJOR DEMOCRAT DONOR

A former Fairfax County teacher was arrested for having an inappropriate relationship with a student, the Fairfax County Police Department announced Tuesday.

Timothy Threlkeld, 40, of Manassas, was arrested and charged with four counts of taking indecent liberties with a child in November. Fairfax County police said "an internal communications error resulted in this information just being released today."

A relative of the teen victim reported a suspicious relationship between the victim and Threlkeld while the latter was employed as a teacher at Langston Hughes Middle School in Reston.

    TEACHER OF THE MONTH

A family affair stretches from a Conway hotel to Maumelle High School with a murder investigation somewhere in between.

Conway police arrested Sherri Keesee on Monday.

She's accused of helping her son, Zachary, dodge authorities after he was named the prime suspect in a deadly shooting at a Days Inn that left a Wisconsin man dead last week.

The Pulaski County Special School District confirmed Sherri is a teacher at Maumelle High School.

    "It's interesting," Tyler Massanelli says.

Massanelli lives in Maumelle, and like others in the area, remains surprised by the news.

"It's weird I guess in a town like this," Massanelli says.

"You don't really expect to see stuff like that."

Online articles portray Sherri as a talented educator. She is shown posing with a Teacher of the Month award on a school website.

Default Teachers want more pay and better benefits

A Clark County high school teacher was arrested Wednesday for allegedly making “terroristic threats,” according to police.

The female teacher at Bonanza High School was arrested by Metropolitan Police Department officers, police spokesman Jay Rivera confirmed. Rivera did not immediately have more information because the arrest was still being processed.

The threats were not specifically directed at the school and were general in nature, he said.

Clark County School District police Capt. Ken Young said he was aware of the arrest but that his office didn’t participate.

    PROBABLY WANTS A HIGHER SALARY

A teacher for students with special needs is behind bars following an arrest that netted multiple drug charges in Henry County.

Alma Nicole Jones, who is currently a teacher at Livingston Elementary School in Newton County, was arrested on charges of trafficking cocaine, felony possession of marijuana and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Jones' arrest was part of a Flint Circuit Drug Task Force operation and occurred after a search warrant at 1106 Crossing Blvd. in McDonough, Georgia. Also arrested was Adrian Barlow according to taskforce Sgt. David Lemacks.

"During the search of the residence approximately two pounds of powder and crack cocaine were found packaged for resale, over an ounce of marijuana and a rifle were located," Lemacks said.

The arrest report shows that she is a school teacher for Newton County Schools. It also lists Jones as pregnant.

Default I keep hearing that teachers deserve higher pay

A Hudson County high school teacher was arrested in Ridgefield Park after shoving a police officer in a parking garage, authorities said.

Jean-Claude Santini, a teacher at Union City High School, is charged with resisting arrest, assault on a police officer, obstruction, and multiple drug offenses, Ridgefield Park police said.

Silvia Abbato, Union City's superintendent of schools, issued a statement Wednesday afternoon confirming Santini has been suspended as a result of the arrest.

Authorities were called to the area of the AMC movie theater to investigate a "suspicious vehicle" in the parking garage around 8 p.m., and found Santini inside the vehicle with a woman. Santini was seen trying to hide something in the car when officers approached him, police said, adding that the woman fled on foot.

Santini, 40, allegedly got out of the vehicle and shoved the officer up against another car. The two wrestled on the ground until the officer was able to apprehend him, authorities said.

Police searched the car and found marijuana, a hatchet, and sex toys, police said. The woman in the car has not been identified, cops added.

Default Don't DEMOCRATS get a lot of funding from educational unions?

A South San Francisco teacher charged with molesting four students during school hours had been previously warned by Westborough Middle School administrators to “not touch or put arms around students,” according to prosecutors.

The exact nature of the behavior displayed by Westborough teacher Joseph Toy that led to a warning by school administrators before any police investigation was not provided by the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.

“They felt he was being too touchy,” San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said, adding the interactions were not viewed by the school administrators as “criminal.”

Following the initial warning, the date of which was not disclosed by the district attorney’s office or by the South San Francisco School District, Westborough officials called police to report Toy was engaging in “inappropriate interactions” with students, information that resulted in Toy’s arrest.

Prosecutors allege Toy sexually molested four male students over the course of 11 months, either on school grounds, in his classroom or in a hotel during a school trip to Disneyland in April.

Three of the victims were allegedly touched while they were 13 and 14, according to prosecutors. The fourth student was 14 when the alleged molestation occurred. Prosecutors say the improper touching included picking the boys up by their armpits, putting them on his lap and kissing them on the back of the neck and head. Toy is also accused of putting his hand underneath their shirts to touch their bare stomachs and chests.

Default I've heard that many teachers are DEMOCRAT activists

A Columbia Public Schools teacher arrested on suspicion of having a sexual relationship with a student was on supervised probation for domestic assault when he was taken into custody.

According to Columbia police, 30-year-old Sean T. Diestel was arrested on suspicion of felony sexual contact with a student. He was booked at the Boone County Jail and released on $1,500 bond.

Detectives began investigating May 4 after the student reported she and Diestel were in a sexual relationship. The young woman was 17 years old at the time and and was enrolled in a class taught by Diestel, police said.

The alleged relationship with the student was ongoing, and at the time of his arrest, Diestel was on supervised probation for fourth degree-domestic assault, a class A misdemeanor. That charge was filed after he choked his wife during an argument at their home.

Police wrote in a probable cause statement for the assault charge the couple were in an argument and the now ex-wife poured water on Diestel while he was in bed. Diestel then jumped from the bed and put his right hand around her throat and pushed her against the door.

The woman told police she had difficulty breathing as Diestel held her throat. Diestel told police he put his hand around her throat, but did not apply pressure. Police said neither suffered any injuries during the fight.

Diestel plead guilty to fourth-degree domestic assault. He was given a suspended imposition of sentence conditional on completion of two years supervised probation and a 27-week batterers’ intervention program.

Diestel asked the judge to change the date of a case review hearing so he could attend a field trip with his students, saying probation and the intervention program were going well.

“I get along with the groups and we cover some great topics and I believe it is helping me to learn a lot about myself,” Diestel wrote to the courts. “I feel better than ever. Everything is going well with my probation officer, Victoria Okoiron and she is helping keep me on track.”

Diestel was also convicted of driving while intoxicated and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia in 2006. He was 19 years old at the time.

Columbia Public Schools spokeswoman Michelle Baumstark said Diestel was hired in 2015 and is currently on paid administrative leave.

Default Teachers say they need & deserve more of your tax dollars

A music teacher at Lee Britain Elementary School in Irving has been arrested for indecency with a child.

The victim, a 10-year-old girl, made an outcry after her teacher, Edmund Charles Barrera, “touched her (genitals) through her clothing while she was seated at a piano at the school” according to an arrest affidavit.

Police said the sexual contact took place multiple times during classroom hours. Detectives had previously been investigating Barrera for three reports of unwanted but non-sexual touching of students. Police say an additional four or five students have since come forward with similar claims.

“Such things as touching them on the shoulder, the head, the cheek,” said Officer James McLellan.

One mother told CBS11 Barrera treated girls differently, touching her daughter and others on the knees and shoulders, giving them candy, and telling them they were beautiful.

Another mother told CBS11 she was the first to file a report with police, prompting their investigation. She said she turned to law enforcement after she felt the school ignored her daughter’s complaint that Barrera was making her uncomfortable.

A letter sent home with students Monday principal Adriana Rico wrote, “It is important you know that Britain Elementary School administration and the district leadership were made aware of the allegations only recently and took immediate action.”
