    Hello DonaldvoTrumpovich,

I never implied that a business would fire ALL their workers. That's just absurd. Not sure how you came to that conclusion. And the car with three wheels is a ridiculous analogy.
Let me give you a better one.
I have a mom&pop Pizza restaurant with 10 employees. I'm barely making ends meet, paying the rent, meeting payroll, covering expenses. Then the gov't comes around and tells me I have to pay all my minimum wage workers (let's say there's five of them) $2 more an hour. Well, I have to pay rent, I have to buy dough, pizza sauce and cheese to stay in business but maybe I can get by with only four minimum wage workers instead of five. Guess what. That's what I'm going to do.
Now that's what you call a good analogy.
And again, I will say we agree that capitalism works using a combination of free markets and government intervention. When I said I preferred capitalism to socialism, I was making a point, not stating that capitalism can thrive with no laws to govern them. Again, you're distorting my narrative to make your argument appear stronger. It's called a Strawman argument. If you want to continue this discussion, please stop.
I didn't say fire all the workers. I said no work getting done. And that is what happens if you fire a worker. The work that worker would have done is not going to get done. Somebody else is going to have to do it. If they could have done that prior, then they have been under-utilized and the expense for the 5th worker was always wasted because of bad management planning.

It is not my intent to change your argument to suit my reply. I can easily dispute the logic of exactly what you are arguing.

Your new example is just as easy to dispute. First of all it begins with the guy who has a failing business. I'm sorry. If you're running a restaurant with 10 workers and you're not making a very nice profit? Something's WRONG with the business plan. You're one issue away from going belly up with no security cushion to fall back on? That tells me it was a bad business plan. A well-run place like that at the right location with the right product could be a goldmine. It should quickly be able to recoup start-up expenses and begin to build a nice security cushion. Within 2 years.
Personal Ignore Policy PIP: I like civil discourse. I will give you all the respect in the world if you respect me. Mouth off to me, or express overt racism, you will be PERMANENTLY Ignore Listed. Zero tolerance. No exceptions. I'll never read a word you write, even if quoted by another, nor respond to you, nor participate in your threads. ... Ignore the shallow. Cherish the thoughtful. Long Live Civil Discourse, Mutual Respect, and Good Debate! ps: Feel free to adopt my PIP. It works well.

No, that's NOT what happens when you fire one worker. You've obviously never run or worked for a small business. If five minimum-wage workers do 100% of their scheduled work then they each do 20% of the work. If one gets laid off, then four of the workers do 25% of the work. That means 5% more work for each. You don't think that's doable? You think that extra 5% by each worker won't get done? You think the business will fail because one worker was laid off?

    I adamantly disagree.

I've worked for small business and large corporations and layoffs are a part of the free market system and a cyclical economy. When somebody got laid off, the rest of us absorbed his/her work and the company survived and continued doing business. The work never "didn't get done".

And you sure are hard on my Mom&Pop Pizza place. Bad business plan? Bad management planning? No Security cushion? I'm talking about a simple little Pizza restaurant. You know, the kind you see in the average strip mall. Papa Spagnoli knows how to make a great pizza. Not so great at business plans and security cushions. You sound like you're fine with letting Mom&Pop's pizza place fail and have Papa Spagnoli and his 10 workers out of a job instead of just one.
See how easy it is to dispute your logic.

As a GenXer I can say you Boomers have f'd up a lot. (nothing like a little generational trash talk). Therefore to make amends you really should run for some sort of office. Or hell go write for a think tank or any group were your voice on markets can be heard. A lot of young people need to hear this.

This isn't about me. You've cautioned me about using a straw-man argument, now I'll ask you to refrain from saying anything about me. I am not the subject.

If every worker was utilized at 100% capacity then they cannot physically perform any more work. If they were not utilized at 100% capacity, then it represented a failure of management.

Thanks for the personal anecdote, but personal anecdotes are no way to run a country or a business.

Capitalism doesn't care if Papa Spagnoli earns a good living and makes the grade or if his business fails leaving all 10 workers out of work.

Here is what needs to happen. If all small businesses in a market are hit with increased labor expenses, and they are just barely getting by, then they need to raise their prices.

Here is a great question I suspect you will want to ignore and wish I never asked it:

What part of a minimum wage increase affects only one business in a market it applies to?

Okay, don't say I didn't warn you about the Strawman thing.
I refuse to engage in debate with a straw man (or maybe straw woman for all I know).
It gets tiresome having to continuously correct my points after you've bastardized them.

    Signing off ✌
