One of the files released last October contains a paragraph about a journalist called Touchstone, editor of the racist newsletter The Councilor. Touchstone claimed that the KKK had “documented proof” that LBJ had been a member of the Klan in the early days of his career in Texas.

Now a question:
Why did Johnson put so much effort into passing and enforcing the Civil Rights Act, when he knew it would hand most of the South over to the Republicans?
